The Cristiano Ronaldo Club World Cup Conspiracy Theory

Cristiano Ronaldo has still not signed a new contract with Al-Nassr and his recent absence from Stefano Pioli’s side has led to rumours over the future of the Portugal international star.
Ronaldo sat out Monday’s 9-0 win over struggling Al-Okhdood. It would have been an ideal game for him to have been involved in as he chases 1000 career goals, but instead he to watch Sadio Mane net four times in a one-sided away victory.
He had also been absent for the recent clash against Damac before returning in the high-profile battle with Al-Ittihad – a fixture his side lost 3-2 having held a two-goal advantage at one stage.
Now Al-Jazirah reports that Ronaldo will also sit out the clash against Al-Taawoun on Friday.
No statement has been released by Al-Nassr over the reasoning behind Ronaldo’s absence. He has missed more than a week of training, according to a fan account of the club.
Conspiracy theories are building on social media that Ronaldo is missing from Al-Nassr’s squad because he is eager to play for Al-Hilal at the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in the USA in a month’s time.
“He's skipping his team's training and is pressuring and begging the Public Investment Fund just to play with Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup. If we don’t sign any players, I still don’t want to see this washed-up guy,” one account claims.
Cristiano Ronaldo: What’s really happening
Ronaldo, however, is thought to be close to signing a new €200 million-per-year deal with Al-Nassr, which would also see him take a stake in the club.
While there have been persistent rumours surrounding his desire to play in the Club World Cup, where his great rival Lionel Messi will feature for Inter Miami, these have been broadly dismissed and have not been taken seriously.
Al-Jazirah reports, instead, that he is currently injured, though the problem he is suffering from is unspecified.
Al-Nassr’s silence over Ronaldo’s situation and his still-unsigned new deal, though, are fuelling the belief of conspiracy theorists that he is desperate to move to their Saudi Pro League rivals.
