USMNT star Sergino Dest responds to last-minute Premier League offer
Sergiño Dest's departure from PSV was seriously considered this summer. The American international could have left the Philips Stadium at the very last minute during this transfer window, but has said 'no' to a move to the Premier League. Fulham tried to tempt Dest, reports the Eindhovens Dagblad , but the defender was no longer interested.
After the 2025/26 season, Dest seemed to be one of the prime candidates for an outgoing transfer at PSV, partly due to a fixed buyout clause in his contract. Things remained quiet for a long time, but just before the market closed, another attempt was made. "Fulham wanted to make a serious offer on the final transfer day for British clubs," writes club watcher Rik Elfrink.
"This proved pointless because Dest no longer felt up to it. The offer was therefore not made, and PSV can consequently work on their ambitions for the new season *with* Dest," Elfrink further explains regarding the transfer issues between Dest, PSV, and Fulham. "Dest wants to stay in Eindhoven at this stage and is not interested in a last-minute transfer."
Sergiño Dest's situation at PSV
After more than three seasons at PSV, Sergiño Dest therefore had the opportunity to leave Eindhoven, where he is still under contract until mid-2028. Besides Fulham, there was interest from other unnamed clubs, but the 25-year-old full-back did not want to leave PSV just like that. However, a transfer now seems unlikely, despite a €23 million clause that allowed Dest's contract to be bought out.
Dest arrived at PSV on loan in the summer of 2023, where he immediately proved his worth. The season ended tragically due to a serious injury, but the Eindhoven club dared to sign him from FC Barcelona despite this tragedy, with Barcelona reportedly retaining fifteen to twenty percent of the transfer rights. Dest rehabilitated at PSV and made his comeback in the 2024/25 season, after which he became a key player again last season and enjoys the full confidence of PSV once more this season.
