Erik ten Hag was not impressed with Arne Slot's Feyenoord in 2023/24.

Manchester United's coach believes that Peter Bosz's PSV team deservedly became Eredivisie champions and actually deserved more in the domestic KNVB Cup, while Feyenoord did not make a very good impression on him.

“A well-deserved champion,” Ten Hag said in an extensive interview with Voetbal International about PSV.

The former Ajax coach saw a big difference between PSV and the rest of the Eredivisie: “Better than the rest by such a large distance, including Feyenoord. And PSV were incredibly disadvantaged in the KNVB Cup [against Feyenoord]...Bosz did an excellent job at PSV last season. The club is alive and thriving.”

Ten Hag's Slot warning

Ten Hag is less enthusiastic about Feyenoord. The manager believes that the Rotterdammers did not meet the sky-high expectations after their title-winning 2022/23 season under Liverpool-bound Arne Slot: “On the other hand, I think that people are overly complementary of Feyenoord."

"In my opinion, the difference between PSV and Feyenoord was too big from Feyenoord's perspective as reigning national champions. Feyenoord were stable this year, but not top. PSV were two classes better in all areas."

"In terms of dominating the ball, in terms of pressing, in terms of intensity, you name it. Bosz has done a great job with his staff, but the rest of the club is also well organised because, with people like Earnest Stewart and Marcel Brands, there has also been peace and quality there.”

A warning to Liverpool? Ten Hag also recently spoke about Slot's appointment at Anfield and struck a much nicer tone. "It's fantastic for him," Ten Hag told Viaplay. "It's confirmation and recognition of his qualities. It's fantastic for Dutch football too."
