Mile Svilar (Roma)

A close race between Mile Svilar and Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but the Roma goalkeeper just wins out.

Svilar has been incredibly consistent all season long, and was virtually faultless ever since Claudio Ranieri arrived as caretaker in November.

The Serbian kept 12 clean sheets in 2025 as Roma went unbeaten in Serie A from January until May and almost clinched a miraculous fourth-placed finish.

Denzel Dumfries (Inter)

Denzel Dumfries has often been unfairly criticized by Inter fans for a supposed lack of technique and awareness.

He has made a mockery of those complaints with a monstrous 2024-25 season.

He has an incredible 11 goals in all competitions (14 for club and country) - seven of them in Serie A - and undoubtedly has been Inter’s player of the season.

The Dutchman is a colossus in the air, scoring numerous big goals with headers off corners and set-pieces.

He was also the key reason Inter reached the Champions League final, scoring two and delivering three assists in the semis versus Barcelona.

Amir Rrahmani (Napoli)

Much of the credit for Napoli’s surprise Scudetto success has gone to Scott McTominay, Romelu Lukaku and Antonio Conte.

But the backbone of the triumph was built by the meanest defence in Serie A marshalled brilliantly by the experienced Amir Rrahmani.

While Alessandro Buongiorno impressed early in the season before being plagued by injuries, Rrahmani has been an ever-present.

He played every single match of the Serie A season and was consistently outstanding, while displaying superb leadership.

Alessandro Bastoni (Inter)

There is an Inter defence with Alessandro Bastoni and an Inter defence without Alessandro Bastoni.

The difference between the two is massive, as the Nerazzurri have been increasingly leaky this season when the Italian has not been on the field.

With Bastoni, Inter kept 14 clean sheets in 33 Serie A games, as well as seven in 13 in the Champions League. Without him, the number of goals conceded soars.

The Italian continued to impress in the build-up with his passing and press-breaking as he cemented himself as one of the best centre backs in the world.

Nuno Tavares (Lazio)

Nuno Tavares joined Lazio from Arsenal on loan with an option to buy for just €6m, which will be activated.

The 25-year-old was outstanding in the first half of the season and was arguably the best-performing left back in all of Europe’s league play.

He mustered up eight assists already in the early months of the campaign, which for a while was more than anyone in Europe.

The second half of the season was disrupted by injury but he did more than enough in the first half of the campaign to make the best XI.

A constant force of nature down the left flank, bombarding at speed past the full-back and whipping in dangerous crosses. His value has now skyrocketed.

Tijani Reijnders (Milan)

AC Milan endured one of the worst seasons in their entire history as they failed to qualify for Europe altogether.

They also were eliminated early in the Champions League by Feyenoord and were beset by problems on and off the pitch.

Tijani Reijnders was one of the few Milan players to perform up to standard as he carried the team for long stretches.

He scored 10 goals and delivered five assists in Serie A and is now the subject of a big bid from Man City..

Scott McTominay (Napoli)

Scott McTominay joined Napoli from Man Utd last summer for just €30 million and has been a revelation in Italy.

The Scotsman was the star man for a Napoli team who won a surprise Scudetto under Antonio Conte.

McTominay scored 12 goals in Serie A, making him the highest scoring midfielder in the league. He really came to the fore in the title run-in with key goals and assists

The 28-year-old has become a beloved figure in Naples, and he deservedly was named Serie A MVP.

Nico Paz (Como)

The 20-year-old is the latest Real Madrid wonderkid to explode after a breakout season at Como.

Paz was the best young player in Serie A, delighting fans with his midfield elegance, creativity and beautiful left foot. He managed six goals and eight assists for a Como team who impressed in their debut campaign in Serie A under Cesc Fabregas.

A product of the Real Madrid youth academy, he joined Como last summer for €6m.

However, Madrid can buy him back for €9-11m either this summer, next summer or the summer of 2027. They also hold 50 per cent of his future sale.

Moise Kean (Fiorentina)

Long tipped for big things, Moise Kean’s career has finally taken off after joining Fiorentina for €13m plus €5m in add-ons from Juventus.

He finished as the second top scorer in Serie A with an impressive 19 goals representing the best season of his career,

Kean was the key reason why Fiorentina over-performed and challenged for a top four finish for much of the season, as well as reached the semi-finals of the Conference League.

Juventus are regretting their decision to sell Kean as the Bianconeri struggled badly to score goals this past season.

Mateo Retegui (Atalanta)

Mateo Retegui was signed by Atalanta last summer as something of an enforced move after star striker Gianluca Scamacca tore his ACL in pre-season.

Scamacca’s injury proved to be a bit of a blessing as Retegui was a phenomenon.

He won the Capocannoniere as top scorer of Serie A, scoring a brilliant 25 goals to lead Atalanta to third place.

Retegui also impressed with his all-round game, holding up the ball and linking with teammates in a way that many doubted he was capable of. He also formed a brilliant partnership with Ademola Lookman.

Many of Europe’s biggest clubs are now interested in the 26-year-old this summer.

Riccardo Orsolini (Bologna)

Long tipped for big things, Orsolini has enjoyed the best season of his career with a stunning campaign for Bologna.

The Italy international has been a constant menace on the right wing for a Bologna team who won their first trophy in 51 years with the Coppa Italia.

In Serie A, Orsolini contributed an impressive 15 goals and five assists, including memorable strikes against Inter, Milan and Lazio.

His pace, dribbling and beautiful left foot cutting in off the right meant Bologna were in the race for a Champions League spot until the penultimate week of the season.
