Five players who could join Rangers in January
Rangers are expected to be busy during the upcoming winter window as they look to back new boss Danny Rohl in the transfer market.
They endured a tough start to the 2025-26 season under Russell Martin and they face an uphill battle to win the Scottish Premiership title amid significant competition from Celtic and Hearts.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through five players who could join Rangers during the January transfer window.
David Watson (Kilmarnock)
Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson has been earmarked as Rangers’ top target for the January window, but they are set to face significant competition for his signature amid interest from both Celtic and Lazio.
The Scotland U21 international will be available as a free agent in July, but he has been widely tipped to leave the club this winter, with Kilmarnock open to a possible sale.
Rangers are pushing to reach an agreement to bring him to Ibrox and he could be set to become their first signing of the January transfer window.
Berkay Yilmaz (Freiburg / Nurnberg)
Freiburg left-back Berkay Yilmaz, who is currently on loan at German second tier side Nurnberg, has been identified as a possible January addition by the Rangers hierarchy.
The 20-year-old has been a regular at Nurnberg so far this season, but Freiburg are willing to sanction a sale next year as he is yet to make his senior debut for the club.
German publication BILD have revealed that Rangers are among Yilmaz’s suitors and although a January deal is unlikely, it’s not out of the question.
Sani Suleiman (Trencin)
Rangers are one of many European clubs interested in finalising a deal for Trencin winger Sani Suleiman in 2026 and they could be set to agree a deal in January.
The Nigeria U20 winger is due to be out of contract next summer, although his current employers are expected to trigger their option to extend his deal by an additional two years.
He is regarded as one of the best young prospects in world football and transfer reporter Rudy Galetti has confirmed that Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur are all closely monitoring his development at Trencin.
Mujaid Sadick (Genk)
Rangers have been tipped to sign a new central defender in 2026 and it’s understood that Genk star Mujaid Sadick has been added to their transfer shortlist ahead of January.
The 25-year-old has been a regular at Genk since his arrival at the club from Deportivo La Coruna in 2021 and Rangers have now lodged an enquiry for his signature, as per Sky Sports.
However, his current contract at Genk isn’t due to expire until 2028, so Rangers may be forced to lodge a significant bid if they want to finalise an agreement to sign him.
Jens Hjerto-Dahl (Tromso)
Nicolas Raskin could be set to leave Rangers next summer and the Scottish giants are therefore unsurprisingly eager to sign a new central midfielder in 2026.
Several players have emerged as options for Rohl’s side, however they have earmarked Tromso star Jens Hjerto-Dahl as their top target for January, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
It’s understood that Rangers have sent scouts to watch Hjerto-Dahl in action for the vast majority of his matches this season and they view the 20-year-old as a player who is capable of becoming a key figure at Ibrox.
