Ange Postecoglou makes decision on Celtic return
Ange Postecoglou has reportedly decided to snub interest from Celtic in favour of taking an extended break from football.
The Australian has emerged as the bookies’ favourite to become the next permanent Celtic manager following Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation on Monday, but he will opt to reject the chance to return to the Glasgow giants.
That is according to The Scottish Sun, who believe that Postecoglou intends to take time away from football after being sacked by Nottingham Forest.
The 60-year-old was appointed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement in September, however he lasted just 39 days at the City Ground before being fired by owner Evangelos Marinakis. Postecoglou failed to win any of his eight matches in charge of Forest and he was sacked on 18 October following a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
The Australian’s move to Forest came just three months after he was axed by Tottenham Hotspur and he is now reportedly eager to enjoy some time away from the dugout.
Who will be appointed as the next Celtic manager?
Celtic had been keen to appoint Postecoglou as their new head coach following a hugely successful first stint at the club that saw him win five trophies in just two years with the Scottish giants.
However, they will likely be forced to pursue an alternative target as the Australian is “unlikely” to return to Celtic Park, as per The Scottish Sun.
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has emerged as a strong candidate for the job, following a stellar stint at Portman Road, while Robbie Keane, Craig Bellamy, Robbie Keane, Kjetil Knutsen and Kevin Muscat are also believed to be in the running for the vacancy.
Furthermore, interim managers Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney could potentially be appointed permanently if they impress during their temporary spell in charge.
