Talks between Davide Ancelotti and Rangers are positive, and there are even suggestions that Real Madrid legend Luka Modric could follow him to Ibrox.

The Italian coach is currently among the favourites to fill Rangers' coaching vacancy. Philippe Clement was sacked in February and replaced by club legend Barry Ferguson in the interim, but the Glasgow side want to make a statement appointment.

Earlier this week, Ancelotti's famous father, Carlo, confirmed that the 35-year-old is in talks with a 'European team' when asked why his son hadn't accompanied him to Brazil after working with him at PSG, Bayern, Napoli, Everton and Real Madrid.

"Davide is currently in negotiations with a European team, and it didn't seem right to bring him in," the elder Ancelotti said. "If he goes to a club, I wish him the best, and if not, he can come back to us."

According to the BBC, talks between Rangers and Ancelotti have been positive so far. However, these discussions have not yet reached a final stage due to the club's ongoing takeover by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group.

Ancelotti to sign Modric for Rangers?

Ancelotti believes that he is Rangers' first choice, but he is not willing to waste his time if he feels that no quick deal can be struck. The young coach also has three other 'high-level opportunities' and wants the matter to be resolved ideally as early as this week.

The report goes on to claim that Ancelotti has asked departing Real Madrid legend Luka Modric if he would be willing to join him at Ibrox should an agreement with the Premiership side be struck.

Modric, who recently acquired a stake in Swansea City, 'didn't say no.' However, the 39-year-old is also fielding interest from Saudi Arabia and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.

Ancelotti is described as having a 'gravitational pull' on players. The Italian was a hugely popular figure in the Real Madrid dressing room, and it is asserted that 'other players have also asked Ancelotti to take them to Scotland.'
