Where is the 2022 UEFA Super Cup?

In recent years, UEFA have looked to take the Super Cup match to cities and stadiums that wouldn’t ordinarily host a Champions League or Europa League final. This has seen the UEFA Super Cup played in Tbilisi, Trondheim, Skopje, Tallinn, Istanbul, Budapest and Belfast over the past few years.

In 2022, the UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland. The venue, which hosted the 1952 Summer Olympics, has a capacity of 36,200 and was the only one to remain a candidate until the very end of the selection process.

When is the 2022 UEFA Super Cup?

The match will be played on Wednesday, August 10th, with kick off at 21:00 CEST. In the UK, that is 20:00 BST.

The game is taking place at the same time of year as last season, even though some leagues are starting earlier in 2022 due to the winter World Cup.

Do Roma get to play in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup?

Even though Roma have also won a European trophy this year, lifting the inaugural Conference League, that doesn’t earn them participation in the UEFA Super Cup. Although there has been talk of expanding the competition to have the Europa League and Conference League winners play each other for the right to take on the Champions League winner, this isn’t the case yet.

Therefore, the match will be between the Champions League winners Real Madrid and the Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt.

It will be the German club’s first ever appearance in the UEFA Super Cup, while it’ll be Real Madrid’s seventh. Los Blancos have won four and lost three of their previous participations in this tournament.
