Romelu Lukaku came off the bench to fire Inter Milan to victory over Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday - cue Chelsea fans demanding his return on the Twittersphere!

Lukaku's stock has plummeted since he re-joined Chelsea from Inter in for €115 million in August 2021, having fired Inter to the previous season's Serie A title, and he returned to the Nerazzurri on loan last summer.

The expectation was that the Belgian would re-find his best form in Italy, but problems with his weight and general fitness have dogged him, and Inter CEO Guiseppe Marotta was moved to address the fact he was among the substitutes yet again against Porto.

"Why Lukaku on the bench? Romelu has 103 kilograms to carry on his shoulders, he must be physically fit," he said.

But with slipping away from Inter, Simone Inzaghi sent Lukaku on for Edin Dzeko just inside the hour, and he snatched the winner four minutes from time.

Chelsea have been struggling this season, meanwhile, with Graham Potter's side 10th, just as many points from relegation as they are the Champions League places, and they are crying out for a striker.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is for sale, David Datro Fofana isn't ready yet, and incumbent No.9 Kai Havertz is a midfielder by trade with only five Premier League goals to his name this term.
