Lamine Yamal has risked further tension with Atletico Madrid by advising Julian Alvarez to sign for Barcelona and admitting that he is ‘waiting’ for the striker to join.

Alvarez has been heavily pursued by Barcelona and the Argentine international gave an interview while at the World Cup where he announced his desire to leave Atletico this summer, much to the club’s fury.

Atletico insisted they would not sell Alvarez to Barcelona for any price and declared that they will report the Catalan side to FIFA for their conduct , with a belief that there has been an unlawful approach to the player.

And the situation has further intensified with Yamal telling Spanish radio that he would ‘welcome Alvarez with open arms’ to join ‘the best club in the world’ in Barcelona.

"Right now, I'm not really thinking about it much, but I hope so, because he's a great player,” Yamal told El Larguero. “If he comes, we'd welcome him with open arms.

“He's coming to the best club in the world, with the best fans in the world, and the best city in the world, in my opinion. So, if I were him, I'd do it. If he wants to come, we'll be waiting for him, go ahead."

Barcelona continue Alvarez pursuit as Yamal becomes latest star to tempt Atletico man

Yamal is not the first Barca player to make a public plea for Alvarez to join the club, with Pedri admitting last month that he ‘wants the best players’ to sign for the La Liga giants.

“Julian as a player, I like him a lot, and I’ve always said that I want the best players at Barcelona,” Pedri said. “But many things need to happen for that to take place.

“I don’t want to interfere in the club’s or the player’s affairs. If the deal goes through and it happens, then welcome aboard.”

It remains to be seen whether Atletico can hold firm in their stance of being unwilling to sell Alvarez to their rivals, with the 26-year-old having no desire to join Arsenal despite interest from the Premier League champions.

Tensions are believed to be at breaking point between Alvarez and manager Diego Simeone and Barca are expected to make another approach for the forward, having had a previous offer of around €100 million rejected.
