Vinicius Jr receives contract demand as Real Madrid reach transfer agreement
Manchester City have reportedly joined the race to sign Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior amid increasing rumours that he will be sold in 2026.
The Brazil international is into the final two years of his current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and, as exclusively reported by The Transfers Podcast in March, Real Madrid are unwilling to match his wage demands.
Vinicius is eager to usurp Kylian Mbappe to become the highest-paid player at the club, but Los Blancos have no intention of agreeing to this request.
As a result, rumours of a move to the Saudi Pro League have intensified in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that a world record transfer bid could be submitted by either Al-Hilal or Al-Ahli.
However, Man City have now joined the race to acquire Vinicius Jr’s signature in 2026, according to renowned X account IndyKaila.
In fact, Pep Guardiola’s side have even reportedly told the Brazil superstar to reject a contract extension at Real Madrid in favour of completing a blockbuster move to the Etihad Stadium next year.
It’s reported that Man City want Vinicius to become their next Kevin De Bruyne following his exit on a Bosman deal earlier this year, while fellow Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United have also been tipped as possible suitors for the 25-year-old in recent weeks.
Vinicius Jr to leave Real Madrid?
News of Man City’s interest in Vinicius comes following BILD’s report that Real Madrid have agreed to sell him next summer after his recent outburst at head coach Xabi Alonso.
The 25-year-old raged at Alonso following his substitution in the second-half of Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in El Clasico in late October and rumours have suggested that he isn’t happy with the current tactics being deployed by the Spaniard.
Vinicius struggled during Real Madrid’s defeat against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday, but he has still racked up five goals and four assists in 15 games across all competitions so far this season.
