As exclusively revealed by The Transfers Podcast back in March, Vinicius has asked to become the highest-paid player in the Real Madrid squad, which is a request Real Madrid are unwilling to match.

As a result, contract extension talks haven’t progressed in recent months and rumours of an exit have subsequently intensified amid significant interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Several Premier League teams, including Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, have also been linked with a move for Vinicius, who has now informed Real Madrid that he doesn’t want to sign a new deal while his relationship with Alonso continues to be “strained.”

That is according to a bombshell report from The Athletic, who state that Vinicius has directly told Los Blancos president Florentino Perez that signing a new deal is not the best option for him.

The meeting between the pair took place following Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in El Clasico in late October, a match in which Vinicius and Alonso had a public bust-up after his substitution in the second-half, and the Brazilian’s position reportedly hasn’t changed.

Vinicius Jr to leave Real Madrid?

As per The Athletic, Vinicius has concerns over Alonso’s position as Real Madrid boss and “tensions have only grown” since the beginning of the 2025-26 season.

The Brazil superstar was notably included on the substitutes bench for Real Madrid’s first Champions League fixture of the campaign versus Marseille in September and his relationship with Alonso has become a major issue at the Bernabeu.

Vini reportedly believes that Alonso isn’t treating him fairly and he is now unwilling to sign a new deal, especially as Real Madrid are yet to accept his request to earn an annual salary of €30 million.
