Vini Jr 'closes deal' for new Real Madrid contract - report
Vinicius Junior has agreed a new contract at Real Madrid that will run until 2031, completing a remarkable U-turn over the Brazil international’s fortunes.
The deal has been a controversial topic at the Bernabeu in recent months. Real Madrid’s board have grown frustrated with the demands of the Brazil international star, who in turn has been left angry that his status has fallen under the management of Xabi Alonso.
This situation led to serious fears that Vini Jr would be sold by Los Blancos in the summer of 2026, with rumours of a switch to Manchester City or the Saudi Pro League particularly growing.
Instead, AS (via Tribuna) reports that sources close to the club have confirmed that a new contract for the attacker is “already closed”.
According to the Madrid-based source: “They have spoken recently and a solution is on the way to reaching a final agreement.”
This seemed to be in the pipeline earlier in the year, but the deal was not signed and the delay led to growing tensions between the parties. It was then suggested that Vini could sign a one-year extension to give the two parties more breathing space to make a long-term decision.
Vini told to behave
Vinicius Junior is going to have to make some concessions to Real Madrid after his recent behaviour.
He notably hit the headlines in the recent Clasico when he stormed down the tunnel after being replaced, then at full-time sparked a ruckus that involved Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
The 25-year-old has been told he will have to follow a code of conduct that is well established for Real Madrid players.
The international break has provided Vini Jr with a critical opportunity to reassess his future, with former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti an ideal tonic for the player during this period, AS adds.
What do Vini Jr’s Real Madrid team-mates think of him?
Vini Jr has decided that his future lies at Real Madrid and has not put any sporting conditions on his contract extension, the Spanish report states.
What’s more, his decision is set to please those around him in the locker room.
AS states: “His relationship with his Real Madrid team-mates remains unchanged. They know what he's capable of and they're familiar with his personality. His gesture of apologising to the dressing room was well-received, and although they've never doubted him or his commitment, it's a positive step that has been appreciated by the group.”
Vini Jr’s new deal is, therefore, set to be welcomed by all associated with Real Madrid.
