Kylian Mbappe loses faith in Xabi Alonso amid Liverpool rumours
Kylian Mbappe is reportedly one of several Real Madrid players to have lost faith in Xabi Alonso amid a three-game winless run.
Los Blancos are currently top of La Liga having picked up 32 points from their opening 13 matches, however they have suffered back-to-back draws against Rayo Vallecano and Elche, while they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League on 4 November.
Real Madrid remain in the driving seat to reclaim the Spanish top flight title after losing out to El Clasico rivals Barcelona last year, but Alonso’s position at the Bernabeu still appears under threat following a tricky recent run.
The 15-time Champions League winners needed an 87th minute equaliser from Jude Bellingham to snatch a point against Elche on Sunday, and their current form has frustrated Mbappe.
The France international scored 18 goals in his first 14 appearances of the 2025-26 season, but he is now without a goal in his last three Real Madrid games and he is among the stars to have lost faith in Alonso.
That is according to a blockbuster report from El Nacional, who claim that Alonso has lost the faith of his first-team squad and a large section of the Real Madrid fanbase.
Xabi Alonso to Liverpool?
News that Alonso has lost the faith of the Real Madrid dressing room comes amid rumours that he could return to former club Liverpool as their replacement for Arne Slot.
The Reds have lost six of their last seven Premier League matches and Slot has been heavily linked with the sack after overseeing an extremely poor defence of their English top flight title.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Slot remains safe at Anfield for the time being, however results will need to improve soon after a summer spending spree of just shy of €500 million.
Liverpool are yet to identify a possible replacement for Slot, but ex-Reds midfielder Igor Biscan believes his former team-mate Alonso could be the perfect man for the job if he leaves Real Madrid.
“Xabi Alonso as Liverpool manager? I think that's always a possibility if he keeps on doing what he's doing, and be successful and make a difference,” Biscan told the Liverpool Echo.
“Whenever you watch his teams, they are doing so well, they have a clear structure, and the quality is always there. Who wouldn't want to have a manager like him?”
