Vinicius Junior’s Real Madrid career could be brought to a premature end by head coach Xabi Alonso, with a stunning report indicating that it will be difficult for the pair to ‘coexist’.

Since Alonso arrived at the Bernabeu, Vini Jr’s status at the club has been diminished. Having been a player that Los Blancos fought tooth and nail to have awarded the Ballon d’Or only 12 months ago, he is no longer an indispensable figure.

The drama surrounding the Brazil international ramped up in Sunday’s Clasico against Real Madrid. Not only did Vini throw a strop when Alonso replaced him, he was later a protagonist in ugly post-match scenes.

Now El Larguero has reported that the tension between the two men runs deeper than previously understood.

The Cadena SER podcast reveals a string of interesting details regarding the relationship between the pair.

Vini Jr and Xabi Alonso at breaking point

The Real Madrid head coach and Vini Jr are not currently on speaking terms, according to the report.

The bad feeling between the pair started soon after Alonso arrived at the club. After he was ready to leave the left winger out of the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against PSG before an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold in the warm up prompted an unexpected start on the right for the Brazilian.

Even at that point, Vini Jr told his agent to prepare for a move if things did not change. Despite this stance and rumours of a blockbuster move from the Saudi Pro League, there were no transfer bids made for him.

Essentially, Vini Jr is frustrated that he is not seen as being indispensable, having only played a full 90 minutes on three occasions. This has made the player furious as he believes that he should be playing more. His reaction in El Clasico was a reaction to weeks of build-up frustration, and with the tension now boiling over, it will be difficult for him to ‘coexist’ with Alonso.

As things stand, Vini Jr is not planning to renew his Real Madrid contract, which expires in 2027.

Fabrizio Romano plays down rift

Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that reports indicating that Vini Jr's future at Real Madrid is in crisis are overblown.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “Real Madrid’s stance is very clear: they are not taking anything out of Xabi Alonso’s hands. The club is extremely happy with him - both on and off the pitch - and fully trust his authority. Xabi will handle the matter directly. He and Vinicius will talk face-to-face after the short break, and Madrid have already decided not to sanction Vinícius in any way. No fines, no suspensions - nothing like that.

“Xabi Alonso has already spoken publicly after the Clasico, saying he wants to focus on the positives - the team’s attitude, Vinicius’ performance - while calmly addressing the situation in private. So, no drama here. Xabi and Vinicius will talk, and that’s it.”

Key moment for Alonso

Despite the victory over Barcelona, Alonso is facing the first crisis point in his tenure as Real Madrid boss.

Losing the faith of a key figure like Vini Jr could have a potentially devastating effect on the squad, but equally, if Alonso can come through this status unscathed, it will strengthen his position at the head of the La Liga leaders.
