Dortmund president confirms club in good shape to fight off Haaland interest

Borussia Dortmund president Reinhard Raubal has downplayed the club’s necessity to sell star players like Erling Haaland or Jadon Sancho if it fails to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Edin Terzic’s side currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga, four points off fourth place and automatic qualification to Europe’s biggest competition.
With speculation surrounding Haaland and Sancho’s future, some reports in Germany and England had suggested that the German club would have to sell their key players in a bid to balance the books.
However, in a club statement released on Monday to confirm a new contract for chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke, Rauball also pointed out that the club had already got its accounts in order for the next two years, with or without Champions League participation.

“We have great confidence in the people acting on behalf of the management,” said Raubal in the statement.
“Even against the backdrop of the ongoing pandemic situation, no one has to worry about Borussia Dortmund’s existence.
“The next two seasons are already completely financed, regardless of whether the UEFA Champions League is reached.”
Who wants to buy Haaland this summer?
Despite constant public statements to confirm that the club have no interest in selling the striker at the end of the season, Haaland has continued to be linked with a move to Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
As things currently stand, it’s unlikely that Dortmund would sell the player this summer due to the player having a contract with the Bundesliga club that is set to run until 2024.
Although there are some whispers of a minimum-fee release clause coming into effect next summer, reports from Germany have recently suggested that Dortmund would demand upwards of €180 million if a club were serious about buying Haaland this summer.
As such, it seems unlikely that any of Europe’s biggest clubs will be able to sign the player unless they are willing to part with a truly remarkable amount of money.
