Neymar has agreed to sign a new contract at Santos, according to Brazilian media and Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazilian megastar returned to his boyhood club in January after terminating his contract with Al-Hilal, ending an unhappy spell in Saudi Arabia that saw him make just a handful of appearances due to long-term injury problems.

Neymar's triumphant return to Santos saw him celebrated as a hero in Brazil, but he only signed a six-month deal with a view to a potential move back to Europe this summer.

However, the 33-year-old has been unable to fully overcome his fitness issues and recently missed Brazil's first games under new boss Carlo Ancelotti. This has made signing him a risk as far as European clubs are concerned, although there has been no shortage of speculation.

The veteran winger has to date made 12 appearances in his second spell at Santos, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Neymar extends Santos deal

According to Brazilian journalist Cahe Mota, and now confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Neymar is set to extend his deal with the Sao Paulo outfit until the end of the Brazilian season in December.

This means that Neymar will not leave Santos as a free agent this summer, although there is a possibility that he will depart the club in January. The Brazilian reportedly still dreams of a high-profile opportunity in Europe.

Across his two spells with Santos, Neymar has made 237 appearances. He has netted 139 goals and set up his teammates 69 times. The iconic Brazilian side currently sit 15th in the Serie A standings after bouncing back from their 2023 relegation last season.

Santos' next game will be against Club World Cup participants Flamengo in mid-July, and it will include Neymar.
