A midfield revamp is on the cards at Anfield this summer, and Mac Allister has been identified as a top target by the Reds.

The 24-year-old – who played a key role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph, setting up Angel Di Maria’s goal to make it 2-0 in the final against France – has been one of the star men this season for Brighton, who are currently breathing right down Liverpool’s necks in the race for Europe.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool have been in touch with Mac Allister’s representatives in a bid to make him their first acquisition of the upcoming transfer window.

Man Utd and Manchester City have also been linked with moves for Mac Allister, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €33.2m (£29.1m).

However, Brighton are said to value the him at more than twice that amount, with talkSPORT claiming that the Seagulls could demand as much as €70m (£61.2m).

From Buenos Aires to Brighton

One of a large South American influx at Brighton in recent years, Mac Allister joined the Seagulls in an €8m switch from Argentinos Juniors back in 2019.

After immediately returning on loan to Argentina with his former club, then later with Boca Juniors, Mac Allister made his Brighton debut late in the 2019/20 campaign.

He’s gone on to feature 106 times for the Seagulls in all competitions, scoring 19 goals – the most recent of which was a dramatic 99th-minute penalty winner at home Man Utd on Thursday night.
