Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is very much in contention of being Bayern Munich’s first-choice number nine.

The side has been linked with a move for Harry Kane of Tottenham but sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has somewhat squashed the rumours, saying he has every faith in his current striker after he signed a one-year contract extension with the Bundesliga outfit.

The Cameroon international forward penned a new deal until 30 June 2024 - and Salihamidzic has claimed that the fresh deal means that Kane is out of the equation - for now at least.

When quizzed about the Premier League ace, the club official told Sky Germany: "Nothing at all, that's nonsense. That's not in our thoughts at all. We extended Choupo. I hope he keeps scoring goals and then… we'll see.”

Choupo-Moting has notched 15 goals in 24 games this season, including nine in 16 Bundesliga games.

The club are adjusting to life without Robert Lewandowski, who made a summer departure to Barcelona.

It’s been an unexpected string of displays this season for Choupo-Moting. He joined from Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020 and his time there has convinced Bayern to offer the former Mainz and Schalke attacker another year on his deal.

Kane has, indeed, been linked as a replacement for the aforementioned Lewandowski but Bayern are refusing to be drawn into a saga.

Choupo-Moting delighted with contract

Choupo-Moting said after his renewal: “I’m super happy to be staying longer and continuing to have lots of fun with the club. I feel very much at home here. My family also feel at home in Munich. That’s a very important point for me.

“I’m obviously pleased I can help the team so much. I get on really well with the guys, we work hard on our goals. The competition is big, but when you want to be among the best, that’s part of it. It’s the only way you can win lots of titles. And we’ve still got big plans. The whole package is right at FC Bayern. There’s no reason to change anything.“
