The summer transfer window in the Premier League and across Europe's major leagues closed on August 30, and the winter window will not reopen until the new year in January.

This past summer did not see the levels of spending from the Premier League as it did during previous years but there were still some huge transfers across the board.

Chelsea spent the most money (€261 million) on transfers of any club in world football during the 2024 summer transfer window. They signed Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham), Omari Kellyman (Aston Villa), Marc Guiu (Barcelona), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Leicester), Renato Veiga (Basel), Filip Jorgensen (Villarreal), Caleb Wiley (Atlanta), Aaron Anselmino (Boca Juniors), Pedro Neto (Wolves) and Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid), Estevao (Palmeiras) and Mike Penders (Genk).

Man Utd also spent heavily. They signed Manuel Ugarte from PSG for €50m + €10m in add-ons, Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for €42.5m, Lille's Leny Yoro for an initial €62m and Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui for a combined €60m.

Arsenal made David Raya's loan from Brentford permanent and signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for €45m and Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for €32m.

Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa from Juventus for a fee of €12m and Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for €30m, although the Georgian goalkeeper won't arrive until next year.

Elsewhere, we saw Brighton (€231.2m), Aston Villa (€176.2m) and Tottenham (€148m) also splash the cash.

Talks NOT progressing between Man Utd and Agoume

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reports that talks between Man Utd and Lucien Agoume of Sevilla are NOT advancing.

"I'm not sure there's a great deal developing," he wrote on X.

"The player is available for €25m or €30m" "I'm certainly not under the impression at this stage anyway that anything is particularly advanced; however, there's 10 days left of the window and it can go from 0 to 100 very quickly."

Maresca comments on Fofana Instagram fiasco

Enzo Maresca has no concerns that Wesley Fofana deleted every mention of Chelsea from his Instagram.

“I spoke with Wes Fofana everyday," the Blues boss told reporters.

"He is very, very happy. He is joining all the sessions with us. He's very happy. From tomorrow, he is with us and can also get some minutes. We are happy, and he is happy. Instagram, as you know, I don't have any idea”.

Spurs quickly move on from Eze

Tottenham thought they had a deal done and dusted for Eberechi Eze until Arsenal swoooped in at the last minute.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Spurs have acted quckly to find alternatives. Miguel Delaney reports that the alternatives drop into two tiers:

Likely: Maghnes Akliouche, Tyler Dibling, Nico Paz.

Less likely: Morgan Rogers, Conor Gallagher, Savinho and Xavi Simons.

Arsenal aren't done!

Why indeed...

Only 'idiots' believe Isak claims

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan reckons only "idiots" believe that Newcastle promised Alexander Isak that he would be sold this summer.

The TalkSport presenter said: “We’ve got a three-year contract left and we’re having this discussion about a gentleman’s agreement and people are actually believing it.

“People listen to: ‘Oh, broken promises’, you get idiots like Jamie O’Hara going on Sky Sports saying: ‘Broken promises have been made.’ Nonsense!

“Everybody in the real world knows that if an undertaking were given by a football club to a player that they were prepared to engage in a discussion allowing him to be sold, that it would be documented properly in the same way that his contract was documented.

“You’re not sitting there with these supreme athletes that are getting paid enormous amounts of money with big contracts saying things that are not substantial.”

Tottenham and Liverpool battle for Collins

Both Tottenham and Liverpool have strong interest in Nathan Collins.

The Brentford star has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Premier League in recent years and many believe he is ready for the step up to a bigger team.

Thomas Frank worked with Collins at Brentford so that is an advantage for Spurs, but Liverpool could make him a target should they fail to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.(CaughtOffside)

Arsenal consider Rogers approach

Arsenal are considering a swoop for Morgan Rogers.

Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his midfield and attack after an injury suffered by Kai Havertz, but the links to Rogers came before they apparently struck a deal for Eberechi Eze.

It is unlikely that Arsenal would have paid Aston Villa's reported £80 million (€92m) asking price for Rogers, anyway. (Sun)
