Napoli make €55m offer for Darwin Nunez
Napoli have tabled an offer of €55 million for Darwin Nunez, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Di Marzio reports that the Italian champions made a massive offer in the last few days consisting of €50m plus €5m in bonuses for the Uruguay striker.
The Italian journalist reports that Nunez's salary will be €5-6m per season.
The feeling on Merseyside is that this offer will not be enough to satisfy Liverpool but Di Marzio says that Napoli are not giving up.
Nunez to Napoli?
Nicolo Schira reported last week that Nunez has agreed to a five year contract with Napoli until 2030 worth €5 million a year plus bonuses.
Schira adds that Nunez has turned down a big offer from Saudi Arabia because he wants to remain in Europe.
Napoli are in the market for a striker this summer to supplement Romelu Lukaku, with Victor Osimhen set to leave the club.
Nunez is the club's first choice, with manager Antonio Conte a big fan of the player.
Napoli are reported to have already agreed a deal to sign Udinese's Lorenzo Lucca but will only go through and complete the operation if Nunez falls through.
The Uruguay international is expected to leave the Anfield club this summer after three underwhelming seasons, over the course of which his game time has gradually decreased.
Towards the end of this past season, Nunez was completely removed from Liverpool's XI, and it was soon speculated that this was to avoid having to send his former club Benfica additional bonus payments tied to his starts.
What is certain is that Liverpool have put Nunez up for sale this summer, and the player wants to move to Napoli.
Fabrizio Romano admits the financial side of the deal with regards to transfer fee won't be easy to solve.
“Darwin wants to go to Napoli, where the doors are opened for him. He’s ready to say yes. But there also has to be a financial agreement with Liverpool, with an important transfer fee, so not that easy," Romano said.
Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for a fee of up to €100 million.
However, he has disappointed by scoring only 40 goals in 143 games. Last season he managed just seven goals in all competitions from 47 games.
