Christian Vieri hails Man Utd summer target: ‘PHENOMENAL striker’

Italy legend Christian Vieri believes it is not all doom and gloom for the crisis-hit Azzurri, hailing Man Utd-target Moise Kean and Mateo Retegui.
The Azzurri face another struggle to qualify for the World Cup after being thrashed 3-0 by Norway in qualifying, a result that means it is likely Italy will have to once again go through the playoffs.
Luciano Spalletti was sacked as Italy coach as a result of the defeat, and much has been said about the decline of Italian talent.
Italy’s attack has particularly suffered in recent years, a far cry from the golden years of the 1990s and early 2000s when the Azzurri were stacked with world class attackers.
What did Vieri say?
“I have no idea (what has happened). When I was in the national team, we had me, Inzaghi, Del Piero, Baggio, Montella, Totti, Casiraghi, Zola, Vialli, Ravanelli, Mancini, we had a lot of number nines and number 10s,” Vieri told The Italian Football Podcast as he promoted the Club World Cup this month.
“I was speaking with Pippo Inzaghi last week. And he said to me, ‘Bobo for 35 years, we had the best strikers in the world and now we are having a big drought’.
“But we do have Kean and Retegui. They are two very good strikers. If they play together they are very dangerous.
“Kean is a phenomenal striker, a phenomenal centre forward.
“Retegui, in the box, is very good. He is a killer.
“So with these two players, we don’t have so much of a problem as the last 10 to 15 years.”

A host of top Premier League clubs, including Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle, are interested in signing Kean after a brilliant season in Serie A.
Kean scored 25 goals in all competitions and finished second top scorer in Serie A with 19 goals.

Retegui also is attracting interest from a number of Premier League teams, as well as Juventus, after a brilliant season of his own.
The striker finished top scorer in Serie A with 25 goals plus three in the Champions League.
