Arsenal target ENDS two-week STRIKE
Ademola Lookman is back in Italy and ready to resume training with Atalanta after ending his two week strike.
The Nigerian star has been AWOL after being infuriated by Atalanta's decision to refuse to sell him to Inter Milan.
Lookman fled Italy back to England to train on his own, deleted all traces of Atalanta from his social media accounts, delivered an angry public statement and issued a transfer request.
But after news emerged that Inter had communicated to Atalanta that they no longer want to sign Lookman, the attacker decided to end his strike and return to Italy. He is now expected to begin training again imminently.
Lookman to return to Atalanta training
Lookman is still expected to leave Atalanta this summer having seen his relationship with the club completely break down.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday night that the Premier League is now the most likely destination for the Nigerian, and that Arsenal could be a team to watch in this final fortnight of the window.
He believes that if Arsenal sell Leandro Trossard, then Lookman could potentially join the Gunners.
Atalanta kick off their Serie A season on Sunday against Pisa and it remains to be seen if Lookman will be involved.
Lookman had his heart set on a move to Inter but Atalanta arejected an offer of €42 million plus €3m in add-ons.
The attacker claimed that Atalanta had broken a promise to sell him after the offer was rejected.
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi then explained that they had promised to sell Lookman this summer to a big club abroad at the right price but not to an Italian club.
Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Lookman and made an approach in the summer of 2024.
Earlier this year, Lookman was crowned African Footballer of the Year and finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d'Or race after a stunning 2024.
He scored a legendary hattrick for Atalanta in the 3-0 Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen in May 2024.
He hit 27 goal contributions for the season before taking that brilliant form into the 2024/2025 season.
In the first half of last season he was arguably the best player in Serie A, as Atalanta looked a good bet for the Scudetto.
However, together with Atalanta as a whole, Lookman's form dropped off in 2025 but he remains one of the best players in Serie A.
