Chelsea defender Genesis Antwi has officially joined sister club Strasbourg on a season-long loan deal, becoming the 26th player to either join or leave the Blues so far this summer.

Antwi, 19, is regarded as one of the biggest prospects in Chelsea’s academy and the full-back is expected to play a key role at Strasbourg next term, with Guela Doue set to be sold on a permanent deal before the end of the window.

The Sweden U21 international made 31 appearances for Chelsea’s youth teams last season, scoring two goals and providing six assists, and he is more than ready to play regular first-team football after several years of excellent form in the academy.

Antwi is blessed with electric pace and this is arguably his best attribute, with the teenager capable of providing immense attacking threat from a right-back berth thanks to his ability to consistently overlap his winger.

He is also a strong one-v-one defender out wide and his composure in possession is a key reason why Chelsea won the Premier League 2 regular season title last year.

He has become the 14th player to join Strasbourg from Chelsea since BlueCo purchased the Ligue 1 club in 2023, although he is the first Blues academy starlet to move to the French side on loan.

Fellow Chelsea stars Gabriel Slonina, Filip Jorgensen and Mykhailo Mudryk have also been linked with a summer switch to Strasbourg, with the west London giants keen to use their sister club as a landing spot for unwanted first-team stars and talented youngsters.

Since the arrival of BlueCo as their new owners, Chelsea have been extremely active in the transfer market, regularly signing and selling stars in a player-trading model aimed at bringing Premier League glory back to Stamford Bridge.

This approach has continued so far this summer, despite the club’s acceptance that signing exclusively younger players has been a misguided approach.
