Liverpool reach agreement with PSG to sign Barcola for €140m - Ornstein

Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for €140million (£120m), according to David Ornstein.

Ornstein understands the two clubs have agreed terms on a deal that will see Liverpool pay a guaranteed €116m (£100m) for the France international.

And that figure could rise by a further €24m (£20m) if certain add-ons are triggered, though a deal is yet to be completed and negotiations remain ongoing.

Liverpool have made Barcola their top target as they look to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes in England next Tuesday (1 September).

The 23-year-old has just two years left on his contract with PSG and does not want to extend his terms with the Champions League holders.

Premier League champions Arsenal have also been linked with Barcola but the forward is understood to have his heart set on a switch to Anfield.

Barcola was left out of the PSG squad ahead of their Ligue 1 opener against Rennes last Sunday, amid Liverpool’s interest in his services.

He was also omitted from the PSG travelling party which lost 1-0 at Lens in the French Super Cup on 16 August.

French publication L’Equipe claims the Ligue 1 heavyweights made those decisions as they did not want to risk an injury to Barcola, scuppering a potential deal with Liverpool.

Barcola faces stiff competition for place in PSG starting XI

Barcola has developed a reputation as one of the best wingers in the world since joining PSG from Lyon for €45m (£38.4m) in August 2023.

Known for his blistering pace, he has won 12 honours with PSG including back-to-back Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026.

However, Barcola has struggled to dislodge Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in PSG’s electric front three.

PSG have also signed wingers Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts this summer, adding further competition for a place in Luis Enrique’s starting XI.

Barcola has also received 28 caps for France and represented them at the 2026 World Cup, registering three goals and one assist in North America.

Liverpool have also targeted Minteh and Sarr this summer

Liverpool are believed to be prioritising two new wingers before the transfer window closes in the Premier League next week.

The Reds have had two offers rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion for Yankuba Minteh, while they also had an enquiry rebuffed by Crystal Palace for Ismaila Sarr.

Unlike the left-sided Barcola, Minteh and Sarr primarily operate on the right, meaning they were considered as potential replacements for Mohamed Salah.

Salah called time on his legendary nine-year spell with Liverpool at the end of last season, and has since joined Turkish giants Trabzonspor on a free transfer.

Liverpool have also been strongly linked with PSG and Senegal winger Ibrahim Mbaye - another attacker who mainly operates on the right flank.

The 20-time league champions have so far backed new manager Andoni Iraola with the permanent signing of winger Victor Munoz and the loan acquisition of defender Ronald Araujo.

Defender Jeremy Jacquet has also moved to Anfield in a pre-arranged deal that was negotiated before Iraola’s appointment in June.

Liverpool opened up their Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw at Newcastle United last weekend, in Iraola’s first competitive match in charge.
