Man Utd weigh up left-back signing with Hall admired

Man Utd are considering whether to prioritise signing a new left-back with Newcastle United star Lewis Hall among their targets, according to Sky Sports.

The Red Devils have so far channelled all of their energy into strengthening their midfield, signing Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.

BBC Sport understands Man Utd are still keen to sign a third midfielder, but they are equally prepared to abandon those plans if the right player fails to become available.

Should Michael Carrick’s side decide to turn their attentions to signing a left-back, Sky Sports claims England international Hall is someone they admire.

However, the same outlet understands Newcastle are keen to keep hold of the 21-year-old, who has three years left on his contract.

Rashford urged to stay at Old Trafford after Barcelona farewell

Marcus Rashford has been told it “makes sense” for him to stay at United beyond the summer by ESPN reporter Mark Ogden.

The England winger previously expressed his desire to join Barcelona on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell at Camp Nou last season.

However, the Spanish heavyweights opted against triggering their €30million (£26m) option to sign Rashford permanently.

Rashford took to social media on Thursday to bid farewell to Barcelona as he prepares to join up with United for pre-season.

There remains speculation as to whether Rashford will still leave United this summer, but ESPN’s Ogden believes the 28-year-old should stay put.

“It ultimately comes down to what Marcus Rashford wants because if he is prepared to stay at Man United, I’m pretty sure they would welcome him back,” Ogden told ESPN. “But if he is determined to go, they’ll have to let him go.

“The Man United fans have a lot of respect for Michael Carrick and he could say [to them], ‘look, we wanted a left-sided attacker, we’ve got a guy here who is 29 years old in October, he’s just won La Liga with Barcelona, he’s had a good season in Spain’.

“You’re not going to get anything better than Marcus Rashford if you let him go and try and sign somebody else. So it makes sense all round for Rashford to stay and be rehabilitated, but it depends on him.”

Tielemans takes part in first training session after move

Belgium international Youri Tielemans has completed his first training session since joining United from Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year contract with United after they triggered a €41m (£35m) release clause in his Villa contract.

And now Tielemans has started preparing for his first season with the club after taking in a short break following his World Cup exertions with Belgium.

United released a short video on their social media channels of Tielemans getting up to speed with his new team-mates.
