Chelsea have signed a “superstar” in the form of Morgan Rogers, according to Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Rogers, 23, had looked destined to join Arsenal this summer, but Mikel Arteta’s side were unwilling to match Aston Villa’s asking price and this allowed Chelsea to swoop with a €138 million offer.

A full agreement was reached for the England international to move to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and he will undergo a medical next week before becoming the most expensive British player in history.

Rogers will also usurp Enzo Fernandez as Chelsea’s all-time record signing and he will link up with close friend Cole Palmer in west London ahead of next season.

It’s understood that Rogers will primarily be used as a left winger or as an attacking midfielder during his debut campaign at the club, with the Englishman's versatility a key reason why Xabi Alonso’s side were willing to break their transfer record to secure his signature.

The 23-year-old scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 37 Premier League appearances last season and while Chelsea have agreed a fee that vastly exceeds his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €65.1m, Bellingham has already endorsed the signing.

Jude Bellingham: ‘Morgan Rogers is a superstar’

Bellingham and Rogers were in competition for a starting berth in Thomas Tuchel’s preferred XI for England at the 2026 World Cup, but the pair remain great friends and they lavished praise on each other during an appearance on the Lions’ Den podcast in June.

When asked what he admires about his compatriot Rogers, Bellingham said: “The unshakable confidence. Especially since he’s gone to Villa, seeing the way he’s like…you know when someone looks like a superstar, he knows what he’s doing. The way someone takes the ball, the way he drives away from a player.

“He looks like a star, and that presence he has on the pitch comes from that confidence. And similar to what he said about me, I’ve watched games of his where he’s not really in the game, but then he bends one into the top corner. That’s what big players have to do. Even if the game’s not going your way, you find a way to make the game in your team’s favour.”
