The England star has been heavily linked with an Etihad Stadium switch for several months and it’s understood that lengthy negotiations have taken place between Man City and Forest officials since the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.

Anderson has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League over the past 12 months and his stock is expected to rise even higher over the next few weeks if he continues to star for England at the World Cup.

The 23-year-old put in an excellent performance during the Three Lions’ 4-2 victory over Croatia on Wednesday night, and Man City are now set to ramp up talks over a summer deal despite the fact that Anderson is currently in North America on international duty.

Manchester United have also been credited with significant interest in the Nottingham Forest man, but they are currently unwilling to match the reported €145 million figure that will be required to finalise a deal and a move to Old Trafford therefore seems increasingly unlikely.

Instead, Michael Carrick’s side have agreed to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson for €45m, while they are keen to beat Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes.

Man City have been in talks with the Nottingham Forest hierarchy over a deal for Anderson for weeks and it has been widely reported that the England star is keen to join the eight-time Premier League champions this summer.

He is expected to become the first signing of the Enzo Maresca era at the Etihad Stadium, with the Italian set to be appointed as Pep Guardiola’s permanent replacement, and Romano has confirmed that a deal is close to being finalised.

“Manchester City are confident to get Elliot Anderson deal done, now at the final stages after work behind the scenes,” the transfer expert posted on his X account.

“New round of talks to take place for the English midfielder who would undergo medical in the US before joining Man City if all goes to plan.”

Anderson scored four goals and provided five assists in 50 appearances across all competitions last season, and he is widely expected to replace club legend Bernardo Silva in Man City’s starting XI following the 31-year-old move to Real Madrid on a Bosman deal.

Man City have also been linked with Chelsea superstar Enzo Fernandez, but he has agreed to join Real Madrid and Los Blancos are now locked in talks over a possible transfer fee.
