Chelsea Transfer News Today: Fernandez deal secured as Alonso saves World Cup star
All the latest Chelsea transfer news in one place, including updates on Enzo Fernandez, Mike Maignan and Diogo Costa.
Real Madrid secure Fernandez funding
Real Madrid are funding their summer spending by effectively selling other teams' players.
The Spanish giants have received half of the €40 million Liverpool have paid for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, and they are now set to hold Como to ransom over Nico Paz. The Argentine wants to stay, but Real Madrid are threatening to re-sign him and sell him for a profit unless Como pay a fee that reflects his value - for a player they already own!
Cut-throat business like this is allowing Los Blancos to spend big this summer, and they have now set their sights on €140m-rated Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who is desperate to make the move to the Spanish capital.
Alonso to save Maignan?
AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan needs a change of scenery as "nothing is going right" for him, as per Gazzetta dello Sport.
A disastrous end to the season with Milan has now been followed up with a disappointing World Cup debut. Maignan is not at his best, with the Rossoneri's failure to qualify for the Champions League tanking his confidence.
As a result, he is exploring a move away from the club. His agent is sounding out the market for Premier League suitors, and long-term admirers Chelsea could offer Maignan an escape route.
Costa interest reignited
Another goalkeeper option for Chelsea is Porto star Diogo Costa, as per Record.
The Blues have reignited their interest in the Portugal international as a potential replacement for Filip Jorgensen, who has requested to leave the club in search of regular game time.
However, Porto do not want to lose Costa and won't offer any discounts. It means that Chelsea could be forced to trigger his €60m release clause if they are really serious about signing him.
Chelsea urged to consider Manzambi move
Freiburg youngster Johan Manzambi announced himself on the World Cup stage with a brace for Switzerland against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday.
The 20-year-old has been the subject of transfer speculation for months after a breakout Bundesliga season, with the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd associated with a move for him.
However, data from analytics firm SciSports shows that Manzambi would be well advised to consider a move to Chelsea. Alternatively, Serie A would be a great destination for him.
