Chelsea have decided to make a “decisive” move for Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso, according to reports in Italy.

The 26-year-old has been earmarked as a top target to replace the departed Marc Cucurella, who has joined Real Madrid for €55 million, and it’s understood that a transfer could be on the cards before the summer window closes.

Cambiaso joined Juventus on an initial loan deal from Genoa in 2022, before the transfer became permanent the following year, and he has racked up a total of 132 senior appearances for the Old Lady, including 47 last season.

The Italy international typically plays as a left-back, although he can fill in as a left winger or at right-back, and it has been reported that Chelsea are eyeing a possible summer move, with rumours suggesting that Nicolas Jackson could even be used in a swap deal agreement.

However, Italian publication Sportmediaset report that Chelsea are plotting an opening bid worth €25m, plus a further €5m in add-ons.

It’s claimed that Xabi Alonso’s side are now ready to make a “decisive” move for Cambiaso, although Juventus currently value the Italy star at roughly €40m and this gap in valuation remains a significant problem as things stand.

But, Sportmediaset report that Juventus must and discussions are therefore ongoing as Chelsea look to bring the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge before the start of the new season.

Analysis: Would Andrea Cambiaso be a good signing for Chelsea?

Data analytics experts SciSports believe that Cambiaso would be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad, with the Italian boasting a higher SciSkill rating than any current Blues player except Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and interestingly Jamie Gittens.

He scored three goals and provided four assists in 36 Serie A games last season, and given Manchester City were heavily linked with a move in 2025, it’s clear that he is being monitored by several top clubs.

Furthermore, with Alonso expecting to deviate between a back-four and a back-three system at Chelsea next season, Cambiaso could be a useful weapon given his attacking tendencies would ideally suit a wing-back role.

Jorrel Hato is likely to establish himself as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back next term, but Cambiaso could be a reliable competitor and his ability to feature as a wing-back may be extremely handy.
