Rice on Rogers charm offensive

Arsenal are hopeful that Declan Rice will be able to talk Morgan Rogers into leaving Aston Villa and join Mikel Arteta’s side, who face transfer competition from PSG for the England star.

Both Rice and Rogers are on World Cup duty with Thomas Tuchel’s side, and the Daily Mail has documented that Gunners’ hopes that their midfield star will be able to help them strike a historic deal for the 26-year-old, who is expected to leave the Birmingham club for a fee in excess of €100 million.

“Declan Rice has been working away on Rogers, hoping to help influence his decision, with team-mates Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze also in the camp,” it claims.

The report adds that Arsenal are hoping to sign “four or five quality signings this summer”, of which Rogers is the priority.

Odegaard’s future in doubt?

While Arsenal are intent on making signings, one player who could be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium is Martin Odegaard, with BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel revealing that there is serious doubt over where the playmaker’s future lies.

“There have been some whispers over the summer that Arsenal might be interested in letting Martin Odegaard go for the right price,” he told the Latte Firm podcast.

The 27-year-old endured a frustrating season in North London, despite Arteta leading the Gunners to end their Premier League title doubt.

In particular, he was persistently troubled by injury problems, which could see Arsenal seek to upgrade.

Sandro Tonali surprise

Arsenal are in a race to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle along with Manchester City and, more surprisingly, Tottenham, who have launched a surprise bid for the Italy midfielder, according to The Telegraph.

Spurs offered the St James’ Park side €92.5 million (£80m) for the Italy international but it was knocked back.

This move came as a “surprise” to Newcastle as Tonali’s agents had previously only mentioned interest from Arsenal and City.

Several clubs are said to have asked about the availability of the former AC Milan star, yet no one has offered the €115m that Newcastle want for the player.

The Magpies, meanwhile, want a resolution for the player before pre-season training begins on 14 July in order to avoid a repeat of the Alexander Isak saga last summer.

Monga deal edging closer

Arsenal are expected to complete the signing of Leicester winger Jeremy Monga before the start of pre-season training.

The 16-year-old has made 37 first-team appearances for Leicester to date and Arsenal look set to fight off significant competition from fellow Premier League clubs to land one of England’s most promising youngsters this summer.

“The interest [in Monga] is absolutely concrete. My understanding is that there is a broad agreement now in place with the player. The player wants to join and all that is left is for Arsenal to complete a deal with Leicester,” Sami Mokbel told Latte Firm.
