World Cup 2026: Every result and the top goalscorers so far
The 2026 World Cup is officially underway, with co-hosts Mexico kicking off the tournament with a 2-0 win against South Africa in the opening match at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Thursday 11 June.
The hosts took the lead after just nine minutes by pouncing on a poor touch from South Africa defender Yaya Sithole, leading to Julian Quinones slotting home the first goal of the 2026 World Cup from inside the box.
Mexico dominated the chances before South Africa were reduced to ten men in the 50th minute, with Sithole's misery being compounded by a straight red card after bringing down the breaking Brian Gutierrez and denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
The lead was doubled by Raul Jimenez in the 67th minute when the veteran striker nodded in Roberto Alvarado's cross, with Themba Zwane getting a second red card for South Africa in the 84th minute and Mexico's Cesar Montes also being shown his marching orders in injury time.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through every result at the 2026 World Cup, with all matches listed as per the local date of each fixture, and the top goalscorers so far at the tournament.
