France and Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has revealed that Inter Miami owner David Beckham "often" asks him about moving to the United States.

The 27-year-old is currently captaining Les Bleus at the World Cup after a bizarre season at Real Madrid. Despite scoring 42 goals in 44 games for Los Blancos, Mbappe has faced fierce criticism, particularly from the club's supporters.

An online petition calling for him to leave garnered millions of signatures over the course of the campaign, with supporters believing that Real Madrid, who haven't won a major trophy in two years, would be better off without the Frenchman.

Mbappe has become an online meme with images frequently doing the rounds depicting him as a "dictator" because of the vast influence he is believed to wield behind the scenes at Real Madrid and in the France camp.

The former PSG star is two years into a five-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. So far, there has been no credible suggestion that Mbappe could leave the club, despite the vitriol he has faced. However, he has now admitted that there have been conversations over a future move.

Agent Beckham looking to sign Mbappe?

Speaking to the press ahead of France's clash with Iraq, Mbappe was asked about his impression of the USA so far and whether he would be interested in playing in Major League Soccer in the future, having just seen former teammate Antoine Griezmann join Orlando City.

His response was eyebrow-raising. While he seemingly dismissed the idea of moving across the pond anytime soon, he did leave the door open to a move in the future and admitted that he has "always liked the US."

"It’s a country with a different culture compared to ours in Europe, and I’ve always liked it," Mbappe explained. "There are no limits on ambition, there’s no fear of saying what you want to do and what you can do. It doesn’t work everywhere, but here it does."

He followed that up by revealing that he is "often" asked by former PSG star and Inter Miami owner David Beckham whether he would be interested in moving to the US.

"Why would I move here? I don’t know," Mbappe confessed, before adding: "David Beckham often asks me whether I want to come to the United States, but I don’t know. Maybe one day, we’ll see."

Could Inter Miami actually sign Mbappe?

Beckham's interest in Mbappe shouldn't be entirely surprising. Since Inter Miami joined MLS in 2020, the Herons have made a habit of signing global superstars.

Even before Lionel Messi and friends turned up in Florida in 2023, Miami had boasted players like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi, who won the 2018 World Cup in Russia alongside Mbappe.

What separates Miami from the rest of MLS is that money is no object for the club's ownership. Co-owner Jorge Mas, a billionaire construction tycoon, previously boasted about having basically unlimited funds available to sign players.

Of course, Miami are restricted by MLS's stringent financial regulations, but a player like Mbappe would be a Designated Player who sits outside of the salary cap anyway. There have also been calls from prominent voices, most notably Messi, for MLS to liberalise spending rules to enable clubs to sign more high-profile stars.

Mbappe would be 30 by the time his contract expires in 2029 and at the right age to make the move to MLS. He would be the perfect successor to Messi, who is expected to retire when his contract with Miami concludes at the end of 2028.

The Frenchman has already admitted that he is not planning to play until he is 40 like Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, so a move to Inter Miami at 30 would make sense as the final chapter in his career.
