Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement in principle over contract terms with Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers as they look to bring him to north London this summer.

The England international has emerged as the Gunners’ top target for the summer and they are locked in talks over a deal, as confirmed by FootballTransfers.

We understand that Rogers is only interested in joining Arsenal or Bayern Munich before the end of the 2026 summer transfer window, with Chelsea therefore expected to miss out on his signature despite significant speculation linking them with a move for the ex-Middlesbrough star.

The Guardian have confirmed that Arsenal have made Rogers their priority transfer target, while transfer reporter Nicolo Schira has now revealed that personal terms have been finalised between Mikel Arteta’s side and the Englishman.

He posted on X: “Agreement in principle between for a contract until 2031 Morgan Rogers and Arsenal, which are now ready to open talks with Aston Villa to sign him.”

Villa are expected to demand a fee of at least €100 million to sell Rogers this summer, however they may be forced to sanction a sale in order to comply with UEFA’s financial regulations, which has opened the door for Arsenal to pounce.

Would Morgan Rogers be a good signing for Arsenal?

Arsenal already have the likes of Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino and Ethan Nwaneri as attacking midfield options, but Arteta is personally driving their pursuit of Rogers, who can also play as a left winger.

The England star has been one of the best players in the Premier League ever since his arrival at Aston Villa from Middlesbrough, and with Arsenal eager to finally win the Champions League next season, he would add significant quality to their forward roster.

Meanwhile, former England striker Emile Heskey believes that while Rogers would be a great signing for Arsenal, a sale could be blocked by Aston Villa.

“He's definitely ready for that step up,” Heskey told The Standard when asked about Rogers’ potential summer move to Arsenal.

“Villa's in a difficult position where they have to sell players on to balance the books. But look, I think for Villa, they've got to try and keep players like that. You can't keep selling.

“I was at Villa when Ashley Young left, Gareth Barry left, James Milner left. Players like Stewart Downing left. They are really trying to build on top of that and have a go. So it's tough for them.”
