'Clear' Morgan Rogers message changes everything for Arsenal
Aston Villa have sent a "clear" message to Morgan Rogers' suitors in a twist that threatens to derail Arsenal's summer planning.
The England star is currently at the World Cup with the Three Lions, but behind the scenes, things are stirring. Rogers has been one of the Premier League's standout performers over the past two seasons, and he is now one of the division's most in-demand players.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and PSG have all been linked with a move for the 23-year-old in recent months. Despite the fact that he signed a new contract in late 2025, it was expected that he would be on the market this summer.
Both Rogers and Villa were said to be open to parting ways, with the player keen to take the next step in his career, while the club was looking for a major payday to fund incoming summer business ahead of their return to the Champions League.
Earlier on Tuesday, reports suggested that Arsenal, who have been pushing hard to sign Rogers, had agreed personal terms with the attacking midfielder. However, the situation looks radically different now.
Villa issue hands-off warning
According to Sky Sports, Villa have "made it clear" to Rogers' suitors, including Arsenal, that he is not for sale this summer. The Birmingham club have not put a price tag on the player because they "would not welcome any bids."
This is a complete 180 on what was previously reported. Crucially, it is claimed that while Villa will likely have to make one big sale this summer, this does not need to materialise before the 30 June deadline of the current financial year.
It means that Villa can sit back and relax while Rogers boosts his value at the World Cup. They can then sell him on their own terms - or not at all, as seems to be their preference.
The report adds that, to date, Unai Emery, Roberto Olabe and company have not received a formal approach for the 24-year-old from any club. "That is almost certain due to the awareness of Villa’s position," it is stated.
Nevertheless, there is an expectation among sources that Arsenal will make contact with their Premier League rivals at some point this summer. It is also not ruled out that Villa's not-for-sale stance could be tested if a large enough offer is made.
It was previously rumoured that Elliot Anderson's expected Premier League-record move from Nottingham Forest to Man City could see Rogers' price explode, and this seems to have now materialised.
Villa appear reticent to sell Rogers for anything less than the €120+ million going rate for elite midfielders now. As a result, Arsenal will likely have to shatter their club record if they wish to complete a deal for the England star.
