Man Utd 'ready to do anything' to sign €40m star

Manchester United and Liverpool are both “ready to do anything” to secure the signing of Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu, according to reports in Italy.

The France international has been a standout performer for Luciano Spalletti’s side this season, racking up 47 appearances in all competitions, and his form has attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs.

Kalulu has played at centre-back and right-back for Juve this term and he has been heavily linked with both Man Utd and Liverpool in recent weeks, with the English giants keen to bolster their defensive options during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Aston Villa have also been touted as a possible destination for the 25-year-old, although they will be required to act swiftly if they want to sign him ahead of next season. That is because Italian publication Calciomercato claim that Man Utd and Liverpool are “ready to do anything” to sign Kalulu this summer.

It’s reported that Juventus have no intention of sanctioning a sale, having only signed him on a permanent deal from AC Milan last July, but an offer in excess of €40 million will cause the Turin outfit to re-evaluate their stance and consider a possible deal.

Despite this, Juventus aren’t willing to enter into transfer negotiations yet, with the club first focused on securing qualification for next season’s Champions League. They are currently third in Serie A with just two league matches left to play.

Analysis: Would Pierre Kalulu be a good signing for Man Utd?

Man Utd are currently prioritising the additions of two central midfielders, a left-back and a left winger this summer, with a central defender not at the top of their wishlist by any stretch of the imagination.

However, the future of Matthijs de Ligt remains fairly uncertain and they could move for Kalulu if the Dutchman opts to depart after a two-year stint at Old Trafford.

Furthermore, while he may be unheralded outside of Serie A, data analytics experts SciSports think that Kalulu would be a fantastic signing for Man Utd. In fact, they believe that he would immediately become the club’s best centre-back and it’s therefore no surprise that Michael Carrick’s side are interested in bringing him to Manchester.
