€175m midfield plan

Man Utd are ready to spend just shy of €175 million (£150m) on three new central midfielders this summer, as per The Daily Mail.

Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte are both set to leave Old Trafford before the end of the summer window, with the former’s departure already confirmed, and the club are ready to spend big in order to bolster the options at Michael Carrick’s disposal.

In fact, the Red Devils have reportedly set aside roughly €175m to spend on three midfielders, with just over €90m of that figure to be used on a “marquee signing”.

Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Aurelien Tchouameni and Sandro Tonali have been earmarked for the role, but top target Elliot Anderson is set to be out of reach. Meanwhile, Alex Scott, Tyler Adams, Mateus Fernandes and Shea Charles have all been identified as possible cheaper midfield signings.

Fermin Lopez bid

Barcelona have rejected a €120m bid from Man Utd for Spain midfielder Fermin Lopez, according to Fichajes.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a sensational season at Camp Nou, registering 30 goal contributions in 46 games, and rumours indicate that he is regarded as a potential replacement for Bruno Fernandes by the Man Utd hierarchy.

However, an opening offer worth €120m has reportedly been swatted aside by Barcelona, who have zero intention of offloading the Spain superstar this summer.

Granit Xhaka transfer message

Man Utd have been told to sign Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer by club legend Peter Schmeichel.

The Red Devils are set to purchase at least two new central midfielders during the upcoming summer transfer window, and they are widely expected to prioritise Premier League proven stars following the successes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo during their debut seasons at Old Trafford.

Speaking to fellow ex-Man Utd icons Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Schmeichel said: “I think we should go and sign Xhaka.

“I make my case, what we are going to do is build the team around Kobbie [Mainoo], right. Now Casemiro is leaving. Now you bring in somebody like [Adam] Wharton, [Elliot] Anderson whatever… that’s still young, that’s still untried. What we need and what we don’t really have apart from Harry [Maguire] and Bruno [Fernandes] in that team is proper leadership.

“When I look at what Xhaka’s done for Sunderland, Xhaka is the reason they are where they are. He has been absolutely amazing, his leadership qualities are great, he can play 80% of the games, he’s a really good player. We’re desperate for more leadership.”

Galatasaray eye Bruno Fernandes

Galatasaray want to “make headlines” this summer and they have earmarked Bruno Fernandes as a primary target, according to Sky Germany.

The Portugal international is yet to confirm whether he will still be a Man Utd player next season, but the club are hopeful of retaining his services for at least another season following a sublime campaign at Old Trafford.

However, Galatasaray are ready to test Fernandes’ resolve as he is regarded as their “ultimate dream target.”

Amad Diallo decision

Man Utd have no plans to sell Amad Diallo this summer, despite a number of underwhelming performances this season.

That is according to Football Insider, who claim that Old Trafford officials remain happy with Amad’s progress and are now contemplating a summer sale.

Meanwhile, it’s claimed that Amad himself has indicated no desire to leave Man Utd, with the winger expected to remain at the club next season.

Donyell Malen wanted

Man Utd are among the clubs keeping a keen eye on Donyell Malen amid his immense form since joining AS Roma in January.

The Dutchman has 12 goals in just 17 games for the Serie A outfit, since arriving from Aston Villa, and Man Utd are monitoring his progress ahead of a potential summer pursuit, as per Corriere dello Sport.

It’s reported that Barcelona, Chelsea and Newcastle are also interested in Malen, but Roma have no intention of sanctioning a sale.
