Arsenal Transfer News Today: Enzo Fernandez pursued as Romano reveals contract plan
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours, speculation and gossip, including updates on Enzo Fernandez and Mikel Arteta.
Enzo Fernandez wanted
Arsenal are reportedly interested in rivalling Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid for the signing of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez this summer.
The Argentina international hinted that he would like to move to Madrid during the recent March international break and rumours of an exit have persisted ever since, with Man City emerging as new contenders for his signature following confirmation that Bernardo Silva will leave the club this summer.
PSG remain interested too, while TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are also monitoring his situation at Stamford Bridge amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder ahead of next season.
FootballTransfers understands that Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali is currently Mikel Arteta’s preferred midfield signing this summer, although it’s reported that Fernandez has also been earmarked as a potential option.
Mikel Arteta contract offer
Mikel Arteta will lead Arsenal into their first Champions League final in 20 years when they face PSG in Budapest at the end of May, and the Emirates side are set to reward the Spaniard appropriately.
With a historic double on the cards with just weeks of the campaign to go, the Arsenal board are ready to offer the Spaniard a new deal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Arteta is under contract until 2027, but with a year to run on his agreement, the Gunners are eager to prolong the stay of the Basque, who took command of the club in December 2019.
“Understand Arsenal are planning to offer Mikel Arteta a new contract in the summer,” Romano revealed on X.
“Plan already decided in March regardless of end of the season results. Arteta wants to focus on titles now but in love with Arsenal project and looking forward to talks. Deal on soon.”
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia interest confirmed
Arsenal are considering a summer move for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has been dubbed “the best winger in the world” by Premier League legend Steven Gerrard.
As previously reported by FootballTransfers, Arsenal are keen to sign a new full-back, a new central midfielder and a new forward this summer, with Newcastle United trio Valentino Livramento, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon identified as three key targets by the Emirates Stadium hierarchy.
A number of alternative options have also been sounded out and Sky Sports have now confirmed that Kvaratskhelia is on Arsenal’s wishlist as they look to sign a new left winger before the start of the 2026-27 season.
Mika Godts latest
Arsenal have set their sights on completing a deal for Ajax winger Mika Godts, as per Fichajes.
The Belgium international has scored 17 goals and provided 12 assists in 30 Eredivisie games so far this season and Arsenal have reportedly overtaken Barcelona in the race to secure his signature this summer.
The Gunners are eager to land a new left winger ahead of next season and it’s claimed that a deal for Godts could be on the cards. However, they will reportedly be required to pay €75m for his services.
Julian Alvarez update
Barcelona will only pay a maximum of €100m to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez this summer, which could mean Arsenal have a free-run at the Argentina international.
Alvarez has emerged as the Gunners’ primary striker target for the upcoming transfer window, but it has been widely reported that he favours a move to Barcelona.
This has been backed up by Mundo Deportivo, however the Spanish outlet also report that Barca will only pay €100m for Alvarez - which is below Atleti’s asking price of around €150m. This likely means a move to Camp Nou won’t take place, increasing the likelihood of Arsenal signing him.
