Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano is predicting a busy summer in the market and has provided some early updates on the likes of Andy Robertson, Robert Lewandowski, Bruno Fernandes and Ethan Nwaneri.

Andy Robertson makes Tottenham agreement

Romano says that it’s nearly a done deal for Andy Robertson to move to Tottenham as a free agent in the summer.

On his YouTube channel, he said: “It was confirmed by Liverpool on Thursday that Robertson is going to leave the club. A legend for Liverpool, a fantastic player, a fantastic attitude, a proper Liverpool player. He has been a big part of their history, and it is sad to see him going. He was part of that incredible squad from a few years ago with Jurgen Klopp, and now there are only a few left from that era, with Alisson and Virgil van Dijk among them.

“So what is next for Andy Robertson?

“What I can tell you is that, according to my information, there is already a verbal agreement in place between Robertson and Tottenham Hotspur over a free transfer in the summer. In the last few days there were several rumours, Italian clubs, Spanish clubs, Tottenham, Celtic, many stories. But my information is that Tottenham are the favourite destination for Robbo.

“The club is ready to proceed, but this is not a here we go yet for one reason, because it is still not signed. And when it is not signed, especially with free agents, you always have to be careful. A player can verbally agree and then still sign elsewhere until the paperwork is done. That is the reality with out-of-contract players.

“Also, this pre-agreement can depend on what happens in the Premier League table. In case of relegation, the story could change. Robertson could then decide to consider different proposals. But for now, the favourite destination is clear. Tottenham are the leading contenders to sign Andy Robertson on a free transfer.”

Robert Lewandowski: Barca stay or MLS move?

Robert Lewandowski is another player heading for potential free agency in the summer, but Romano says his story at Barcelona is not necessarily over yet.

He explains: “There have been many stories around him in recent days, so let me explain the situation clearly. His agent, Pini Zahavi, wants to put all the best possibilities on the table for Lewandowski by the end of this month. Then it will be up to the player to decide, on the financial side, on the sporting side, on the project side, and of course also with the family in mind.

“Lewandowski already has a discussion with Barcelona over a new contract, but not on the same salary he is earning now. His current contract is huge, agreed when he joined from Bayern, so Barcelona are prepared to offer him a shorter deal, one more season, but on reduced terms.

“Then it is up to Lewandowski to decide whether he wants to stay or explore the other options. Among those options are Italian clubs, MLS, and Saudi Arabia.

“MLS are being very aggressive with Lewandowski. They want him and are ready to offer important money. Saudi clubs wanted him already two or three years ago and they are back at the table now. So Lewandowski will have plenty of options.

“If he wants to continue in Europe, Barcelona is there. But if he wants a new chapter, there are alternatives. Champions League football is very important now, and he wants to focus on that first. There is a crucial game coming against Atletico Madrid, and in the next two weeks we will understand more about his future.”

Bruno Fernandes ‘quite clear’ about Man Utd future

Romano says that it’s looking increasingly likely that Bruno Fernandes will stay with Man Utd following comments he made this week in which he said he feels like a real Mancunian.

“What I can tell you is that over the last few weeks, the prospect of playing Champions League football again with Manchester United has really made an impact on Bruno Fernandes,” Romano explained.

“At the moment, from Saudi Arabia, they still want Bruno. They have wanted him for a long time, from Al Hilal and before that too. But Bruno is very tempted by the idea of playing Champions League football with United.

“So Manchester United are optimistic about keeping him for next season. There will be a conversation between Bruno and United at the end of the season, and we will follow that. But for now, the club hope they can keep him and continue with Bruno in the project.”

Ethan Nwaneri: What next for Arsenal youngster?

Ethan Nwaneri was not involved in Marseille’s victory over Metz on Friday and has found playing time at Stade Velodrome difficult to come by following the surprise exit of Roberto De Zerbi.

Romano has detailed the difficult position he finds himself in, but also what might come next for the midfield sensation.

“Now, it is complicated. He is at Marseille on loan, not with an option, so he is not going to stay there next season. He will go back to Arsenal. But what happens in the summer transfer window?” Romano said.

“There have been reports saying Nwaneri could go to Borussia Dortmund, or that he could leave Arsenal permanently. But let me be clear. Dortmund wanted Nwaneri on a permanent transfer from Arsenal already one year ago, when Arsenal were negotiating a new contract and eventually managed to agree one. At that time Chelsea were also very interested, and Dortmund were strongly in the race.

“That interest remains strong now. Several clubs around Europe are attentive to the situation. But Arsenal have not told the player or his camp that he can leave in the summer. So that is not the case at the moment. It is still not decided.

“At the end of the season, Arsenal will assess the situation with Nwaneri. Not today. Nothing is clear yet. Dortmund are still hoping to do one of their usual deals, with top talents and then potentially sell them later. So Nwaneri remains on their shortlist, but nothing is decided by Arsenal yet.”

Akliouche interest growing in the Premier League

Several clubs continue to monitor Monaco attacking midfielder Maghnes Akliouche, with Romano confirming there is “a lot of attention around him”.

He said: “This is a winger from Monaco who was on the shortlist of several clubs one year ago, including Tottenham and Manchester City. Nothing happened because Monaco did not want to sell him in the summer of 2025.

“Now, for the 2026 summer window, I am telling you to keep a close eye on his situation. Several clubs have started calling, several clubs are informed on his status, and he could become an opportunity. The Premier League could absolutely be a destination for Akliouche.

“So let’s follow this one too, because there is a lot of attention around him.”
