Chelsea are set to lose one of their key players this summer after reports emerged of the club’s transfer plans which have frustrated him into leaving.
The Blues are set for another busy summer and they could be forced to make significant sales if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, with Liam Rosenior’s side sitting sixth in the Premier League table.
Despite uncertainty and unrest after the 3-0 home loss to Manchester City last weekend, Chelsea have continued to press on with their summer transfer plans, while including Rosenior as a key figure in their decisions.
And one of Rosenior’s biggest decisions this summer is likely to include making Mike Penders Chelsea’s new starting goalkeeper next season after impressing while out on loan at Strasbourg.

Rosenior worked with Penders at the Ligue 1 side before being appointed as Chelsea boss in January and it is believed that the Belgian shotstopper’s progress has led to him being chosen as the club’s number one for the long-term future.
However, the decision to fast-track Penders to a starter has led to Robert Sanchez looking to leave Stamford Bridge, with TEAMtalk claiming that the 28-year-old’s exit is now viewed as a ‘strong possibility’ this summer as he is 'unwilling' to accept a prolonged spell as a backup.
Chelsea scrap plans to sign goalkeeper after Penders development
Sanchez has generally been utilised as Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper since his €23 million move from Brighton in 2023 but a number of errors and inconsistent performances have seen the Spaniard often rotated during his time at the club.
Although Sanchez has played more minutes than any Chelsea player in the Premier League this season, Rosenior has been unconvinced by his number one, while backup keeper Filip Jorgensen has also failed to impress in his gametime this season.
Chelsea have also scouted a number of new transfer targets to strengthen in goal, with Sunderland’s Robin Roefs speaking out about interest this week after being linked with a €70m move to West London.
However, Penders’ time with Strasbourg has reportedly convinced Chelsea to abandon plans to sign a new goalkeeper and instead look to elevate the 20-year-old to become their starter going forward.
