Chelsea make 'contact' to sign €30m World Cup hero
Chelsea and other Premier League clubs have made "contact" with Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kerim Alajbegovic.
The 18-year-old has been one of the revelations of the season. Sold to RB Salzburg last summer, Leverkusen have decided to trigger their buy-back clause before the campaign is even out, such has been Alajbegovic's impact.
The teenager has scored 11 goals and provided three assists for Salzburg so far this term. Despite his youth, he already has eight senior caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina to his name.
He featured in both of his country's World Cup playoff wins during the recent international break, setting up Edin Dzeko for his goal against Wales and coolly converting both of his penalties in the two shootouts that saw Bosnia and Herzegovina qualify for the showpiece event in North America.
Even though Leverkusen will bring him back this summer, it is unclear if Alajbegovic will play for the Bundesliga side next season, as the youngster is being courted by numerous European giants.
Chelsea make Alajbegovic contact
According to Reprezentacija, various Premier League sides, including Chelsea and Man Utd, are in "contact" over a potential summer move for Alajbegovic.
The Bosnian outlet claims that a transfer north of €30 million is "in the works," and that his English suitors want to complete a deal for the 18-year-old winger "as soon as possible."
Aston Villa and Man City are also "trying to make their case" to Alajbegovic, who has admirers elsewhere in Europe as well. Given the money on offer, Leverkusen could be tempted to sell the Cologne-born attacker.
However, playing a season or two in the Bundesliga would surely go a long way in his development. If he were to join Chelsea or Man Utd, there is no guarantee that Alajbegovic would see regular minutes.
