Wrexham are in the mix for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season, and the side owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are making ambitious transfer plans for the summer should they achieve that goal.

The Robins are installed in the play-off spots in the Championship after winning promotion last season and have picked up three successive victories to underline their status as a contender to go up.

After spending around €39 million last summer to strengthen their side, Wrexham’s ambitions will stretch further should they achieve an incredible fourth-straight promotion.

Wrexham target Robertson and Wilson

The first two targets that Phil Parkinson’s outfit are set to pursue are a couple of high-profile free agents.

Wrexham want to sign Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Fulham’s Harry Wilson if they are playing Premier League football next term, TeamTalk reports.

Both would have motivation for the move. Wales international Wilson is being offer the opportunity to represent a club from his home country in the Premier League.

Robertson, meanwhile, could keep the upheaval to his personal life to a minimum with such a switch, given that Wrexham is less than an hour from Liverpool, which has been his home for the last nine years.

Preparing for a jump in quality

Both players would represent an enormous step up for the Welsh club. SciSports, an analytics firm that gives each player a SciSkill rating based on hundreds of in-game data points, gives Robertson a score of 99.2 and Wilson a mark of 105.0.

Wrexham’s current top player is on-loan defender Issa Kabore, who comes in with a score of 74.6.

Record signing Nathan Broadhead’s SciSkill is 72.6, meanwhile.

Robertson and Wilson would, therefore, lift Wrexham into a different level.

Wrexham’s meteoric rise

That Wrexham are even being linked with such players is remarkable in itself and testimony to the outstanding manner in which the club on the Welsh border has been run. As recently as 2022/23, they were still playing in the National League before a run that has seen them win promotion in three consecutive years.

Indeed, these players offer just the first taste of what the club would enjoy with a budget that would dramatically increase should they become a Premier League team.

The Dragons have already snapped up a couple of wily veteran international players, having added Kieffer Moore to their ranks from Sheffield United last summer, while they also boast once-capped England international striker Jay Rodriguez, who was added from Burnley.

Wilson and Robertson, two genuine star names in the Premier League, represent a step up from either of those players and underline the remarkable growth of Wrexham under the guidance of Reynolds and McElhenney.
