Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Marcus Rashford, Michael Olise and Rasmus Hojlund.

Rashford and Hojlund set for permanent Man Utd exit

Romano confirmed that Manchester United are ‘counting’ on the permanent sales of Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford this summer as part of their summer budget.

“Man Utd are counting on €80 million income from Hojlund and Rashford,” Romano said. “For Højlund, Napoli already paid a €6m loan fee, and Napoli are fully expected to pay the €44m option-to-buy clause in the summer.

“Napoli are very happy with Højlund, he is very happy at Napoli, and the expectation is for them to continue together. So if nothing crazy happens, Man United can count on €50m total package for Rasmus Højlund.

“Then €30 million from Rashford, because at the end, Manchester United believe that Barcelona will be able to make the deal permanent for Rashford. They are still talking club-to-club, and it will take some time financially for Barcelona to progress in an official way. But with the agents of Marcus Rashford, there is already an agreement.

“Barcelona want him, Rashford is ready to stay at Barça. Remember, from Man United, Højlund could be 50 and Rashford could be 30—so €80m potentially, which could be an important budget for United."

Olise not a realistic target for Liverpool

Liverpool ‘appreciate’ Michael Olise as a target but Bayern Munich are not expecting to consider offers for their star winger, according to Romano.

“For Liverpool, I think it’s going to be a busy summer for wingers,” Romano said. “It’s very clear that Liverpool need to reinforce their wingers—the situation with Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo. I think in general, Liverpool need to add something fresh in that position.

“But at the moment, on Michael Olise, it’s a similar situation to Vitinha and Real Madrid. You can appreciate the player—he is one of the best in the world in his position—but Bayern have no intention at all to let him go. Bayern are very happy with Olise, and Bayern don’t even want to negotiate.

“Liverpool appreciate Olise, yes for sure, but who doesn't appreciate Olise? At the moment, that’s the story. Bayern are very happy with the boy, there is no release clause in his contract now, and so the situation remains under control for Bayern. I think the realistic targets for Liverpool will be others."

Real Madrid tracking Schlotterbeck

Romano confirmed that Real Madrid have been watching Nico Schlotterbeck’s performances in recent times but there is nothing close to being agreed with the Dortmund defender.

“Real Madrid sent their people to follow closely the performances of Nico Schlotterbeck, not just in recent months, but also in recent days and weeks,” Romano said. “Real Madrid people were in attendance for the game between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern to follow the progress of Nico.

“You don’t need to do traditional scouting with him, but to see the player under pressure—big game, Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern—to see how he behaves at this sort of stage is something important.

“So Real Madrid are monitoring the boy, and the boy is aware of Real Madrid’s interest. He knows that this is a possibility for the summer.

“He is out of contract in summer 2027, so he has to decide whether to sign a new contract at Borussia Dortmund or not. Not extending probably means he can consider opportunities in the summer transfer window.

“For Real Madrid, he is an option, he is one of the names being monitored, but at the moment there is still nothing advanced in terms of bids or negotiations."

Vitinha confirms PSG stay after rejecting Real Madrid move

Vitinha has confirmed that he will stay with PSG this summer despite speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

“Real Madrid, in terms of midfielders, will be active in the summer transfer window and are exploring possibilities,” Romano said. “Let’s see what Rodri will decide between signing a new contract at Man City or considering other options.

“Vitinha was one of the most linked players to Real Madrid in recent weeks. This is not a concrete possibility; there is really nothing to it apart from the appreciation, which is obvious for a top player like Vitinha.

“Today, the player went public and said, 'It would be stupid of me to leave Paris at this stage. It’s a fantastic project, I feel very good with the manager.' The feeling between him and PSG is excellent.

“Don't forget that PSG, and especially the director Luis Campos, trusted Vitinha when he was not in the best moment of his career. So Vitinha became Vitinha thanks to Paris Saint-Germain. He’s not planning to change, and Vitinha today closed the doors to a summer move in general and specifically to Real Madrid."

Allegri to Real Madrid?

Massimiliano Allegri is not in contention to become Real Madrid’s new manager at this time despite reports from Italy, Romano claimed.

Romano said: “With maximum respect for the Italian press reporting, I’m not aware of anything really, really advanced between Allegri and Real Madrid. There is nothing really into it.

“Allegri is fully focused on AC Milan. Allegri was very close to becoming the new Real Madrid manager, but it was a few years ago—if I remember well, it was summer 2021. It was almost agreed and then it collapsed at the final stages, but that’s a story from a few years ago. At present, Allegri is fully focused on AC Milan, and Real Madrid have not made any decision on the new coach yet."
