Bruno Guimaraes 'agrees' to join Man Utd
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has agreed personal terms with Manchester United, according to a bombshell report.
The Brazil international has just two years remaining on his current deal at St James’ Park, and he has emerged as top transfer target for Michael Carrick’s side in recent weeks amid the Red Devils’ pursuit of a new central midfielder.
Guimaraes has been earmarked as a suitable candidate to replace his compatriot Casemiro in the Man Utd midfield, although the 13-time Premier League champions are also interested in signing the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott, Joao Gomes and Sandro Tonali.
Despite this, Guimaraes continues to be linked with an Old Trafford switch and an agreement on personal terms has been reached, according to transfer insider IndyKaila.
It’s claimed that Guimaraes, 28, wants to complete a move to Man Utd this summer and his representatives are now reportedly pushing Newcastle to finalise a deal with the Red Devils regarding a transfer fee.
Eddie Howe responds to Bruno Guimaraes transfer gossip
However, when asked about reports suggesting that Guimaraes is in advanced talks with Man Utd officials last week, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was quick to downplay rumours that his captain could leave St James’ Park this summer.
“I don't even know how to respond to that. I don't even think I should because it's a waste of my energy,” Howe told reporters.
“I'm not going to be impolite because I don't think it's the forum to do that in. For me it's a nonsense story. Bruno's our captain, he's fully committed. He's injured at the moment, his only focus is coming back to fitness.
“For me, it is not the time to think about it. In the summer, you can understand those stories a little bit more because the transfer window is open. To say our captain is in discussions with another club is totally disrespectful to Bruno more than anything else. He is totally committed here.”
Guimaraes has scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 35 appearances across all competitions so far this season, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €80.8 million - the highest of any player in Newcastle’s first-team squad.
