Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Caicedo’s important message, Hakimi to Real Madrid, Man Utd updates
Fabrizio Romano has delivered a series of key transfer updates from around Europe, with Moises Caicedo and Achraf Hakimi delivering big news while Manchester United have made a string of important transfer decisions.
Moises Caicedo: I’m staying at Chelsea
Moises Caicedo has shut down rumours that he could leave Chelsea to join Real Madrid in a blockbuster summer move.
Romano explained on his YouTube channel: “In an interview with El Chiringuito, he was asked about the possibility of one day joining Real Madrid - but Caicedo made his position very clear.
“He said: ‘I am a Chelsea player. I want to become a Chelsea legend.’
“Strong words from Caicedo - and an important message for Chelsea fans. He really believes in the project, feels appreciated by the club and supporters, and wants to stay and fight for success after a difficult season.
“And to clarify, Real Madrid have not opened talks or made any contact for Caicedo. The question came up only because Madrid are expected to look at midfield options this summer, but Caicedo is not part of their plans right now.
“So his full focus on Chelsea. Commitment from the player. Good news for Blues fans.”
Hakimi’s agent denies Real Madrid return rumours
Real Madrid have also received a setback when it comes to Achraf Hakimi, as they had been linked with a move for the PSG right-back.
“You’ve seen the headlines linking him again to Real Madrid but let’s be clear: his agent, Alejandro Camano, speaking to WinWin All Sports, has closed the door completely.
“He said there’s no possibility for Hakimi to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and no talks whatsoever with Real Madrid.
“Hakimi is very happy in Paris and wants to help PSG go as far as possible in the Champions League. Of course, Madrid respect and admire him - he came through their academy - but right now there’s no hint of movement there.
“So, forget about rumours: Hakimi staying at PSG.”
Manchester United updates: Sancho, Mainoo, Maguire
Meanwhile, there’s a lot going on at Manchester United as they plan a summer overhaul.
Romano said: “First, to Jadon Sancho. As I mentioned recently, United consider the story over. The loan to Aston Villa will be followed by a free exit this summer. United won’t trigger the contract extension option because it’s too expensive and the player is not in their plans.
“Jadon Sancho is free to decide his next move. Borussia Dortmund remain interested - that relationship is still strong, the bond with the fans, the atmosphere, everything. Financially, though, it will need compromises on salary to make it happen. There was also interest from Italy and Saudi Arabia, so this will be one to watch.
“Then, quick confirmation on Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo. Maguire’s new deal - almost done, valid until 2027, with an additional year option to 2028.
“And Kobbie Mainoo - negotiations for his new long-term contract are in the final stages. Target is to get everything signed before the end of this season - a five-year deal until June 2031, with improved salary and key role guaranteed.
“Both sides are optimistic - it’s almost there. United see Mainoo’s renewal as a priority for the future.”
Griezmann to Orlando City is official
Romano also touched on the deal that will take Antoine Griezmann to Orlando City in the summer.
“Griezmann travelled to Florida earlier this week to sign his contract - valid for two years - and he’ll wear the number 7 shirt for Orlando City. The move was made official today by the club,” Romano said.
“The plan had originally been for Griezmann to join immediately in March, but that wasn’t possible - both Griezmann and Atletico Madrid wanted him to stay for the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona.
“So, everything is agreed - transfer completed, move taking effect in July.
“Big congratulations to Antoine Griezmann - one more European superstar heading to Major League Soccer.”
