The 32-year-old is currently set to become a free agent when his contract at Anfield expires at the end of June and he is expected to be the subject of significant transfer interest this summer as a result.

Liverpool are yet to initiate advanced talks over a contract extension with Robertson, despite rejecting an approach from Tottenham Hotspur during the recent winter transfer window, but a new deal hasn’t yet been ruled out.

Despite this, Robertson has been widely tipped to leave Anfield this summer after a hugely successful nine-year stay at the club, and Celtic have emerged as possible candidates for his signature.

However, the Liverpool defender is unlikely to join the Scottish giants, according to Football Insider.

Robertson is a boyhood Celtic fan, but he is still eager to play at the highest level possible and amid interest from several Premier League clubs, it will reportedly be a “difficult deal” for the Hoops to finalise.

Andy Robertson provides Liverpool contract update

Robertson has made 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season, but he has played second fiddle to summer signing Milos Kerkez in the Premier League and reports have suggested that he could depart Anfield in search of more regular football in 2026-27.

When asked about his future in early March, Robertson told reporters: “I was never not committed. I've been committed to Liverpool for the last eight and a half or nine years now and I'll be committed until I'm no longer needed. That's always been my mindset…

“Whatever was happening behind the scenes happened, and all I can say is that I kept focusing on football. I've always maintained that [the talks] will remain between me and the club. I don't believe it will be aired in public. It's not one of those situations. I have a fantastic relationship with Richard Hughes, Mike Gordon and Michael Edwards.

“I've had a positive relationship with these individuals who brought me to the football club. They've played a significant role in shaping who I am today, so in that respect, we've had an excellent relationship.

“I think out of respect for them, and their respect for me, our conversations will remain private. When a decision is made, especially considering I only have three months left on my contract, it will be announced to you all.”
