Arsenal Transfer News Today: Goretzka decision confirmed amid Zubimendi exit threat
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Leon Goretzka and Martin Zubimendi.
Leon Goretzka wants Arsenal move
Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka would “love” to play for Arsenal, according to renowned German transfer reporter Christian Falk.
The 31-year-old will become a free agent when his current contract at the Allianz Arena expires at the end of June and Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign him on a Bosman deal.
Arsenal were interested in signing Goretzka during the January transfer window and while it’s not guaranteed that Mikel Arteta’s side will lodge a formal contract offer this summer, the midfielder believes a move to the Gunners is the perfect next step.
Martin Zubimendi to leave?
Arsenal face the prospect of losing Martin Zubimendi in the summer as claims circulate that he is already poised to leave the Emirates Stadium less than a year after arriving from Real Sociedad.
Arsenal are seeking to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, according to a report from Indykaila, and Zubimendi is now considering a move back to his homeland as a result.
Fichajes claims that Zubimendi has struggled to adapt to London life and with the potential arrival of Anderson, he could be relegated to the bench, something the midfielder is “unwilling to accept under any circumstances”.
Sales required
Arsenal will be required to sell at least one first-team star this summer in order to balance the books following their significant transfer outlay last year.
That is according to a bombshell report from The Telegraph, who have revealed that Arsenal will have to sell at least one senior player this summer due to their transfer activity last year.
It’s reported that club captain Martin Odegaard is under consideration to depart as he only has two years remaining on his current contract and could be sold for a major profit on the balance sheet as he has been at the club since 2021.
Gabriel Martinelli and Benjamin White are both strong contenders to be sold too, while Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard are also mentioned as potential options due to their contractual situations.
In addition, academy graduates Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly could also be offloaded, partly due to the benefit of ‘pure profit’ sales, although the club would be heavily scrutinised if either player is sacrificed.
Jack Hinshelwood deal off
Brighton & Hove Albion star Jack Hinshelwood is extremely unlikely to join Arsenal this summer after signing a new contract with the Seagulls.
The England U21 international, who can play at full-back or as a central midfielder, has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal in recent weeks, but a move to the Emirates Stadium is now likely to be off the table.
Following confirmation of Hinshelwood’s new contract, Fabian Hurzeler told the Brighton website: “I am delighted we have secured Jack’s future here. He has a very bright future ahead of him, and continues to grow and develop all the time.
“Jack is the ideal role model for our academy players and is a fantastic reflection of the hard work the academy staff have put in with him over his time here.
“After making his breakthrough at such a young age, he was already fully integrated into the first team when I arrived and he is growing into a leader in the dressing room. We are delighted he has signed this new longer contract with the club.”
