Man Utd Transfer News Today: Rogers takes HUGE step to move as details over Osimhen deal revealed
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Morgan Rogers, Victor Osimhen and Casemiro
EXCLUSIVE: Man Utd target Morgan Rogers preparing for summer switch
FootballTransfers can confirm that the 12-cap England star is in the process of changing agency ahead of the summer window, suggesting that he is preparing himself for a big move.
The Villa star is presently with Footwork but is in talks with CAA Base, which also represents his close friend Cole Palmer as well as a number of other leading Premier League stars such as Eberechi Eze and Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu.
Rogers, meanwhile, is high on Man Utd’s transfer shortlist ahead of the summer as they plan a dramatic midfield overhaul that would ideally include Elliot Anderson, who they intend to sign from Nottingham Forest.
FootballTransfers’ information is that Man Utd are eager to sign the star, who in turn is set to pressurise his current employers to agree a transfer via new representatives.
Amorim sack cost revealed
In a report made to the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, United confirmed the cost of Amorim’s sacking in January.
The club stated: “A charge of £6.3m (€7.2m) for the write off of related intangible assets and a provision of £15.9m (€18.6m), representing the maximum potential amount of future settlement payments, will be recognised in the statement of profit or (loss) during the second half of the year ending 30 June 2026.”
In addition to the cost of Amorim’s departure, there is also the added compensation associated with parting with his staff, which could drive the total figure above €30m.
The Telegraph, meanwhile, reports that the manager’s compensation package will depend on numerous factors, one of which is whether he takes another job.
Why Man Utd didn't sign Victor Osimhen
The Nigeria international was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League last year, amid interest from Chelsea and Man Utd, but he eventually completed a permanent move to Galatasaray in July following a successful loan spell at the club.
Reports indicated that Osimhen’s wage demands were a key reason why Chelsea and Man Utd opted against finalising a deal, although McCarthy believes that AFCON was the biggest issue behind a potential move to the latter.
“If you spend £100m on a player, you don’t want to lose him for AFCON,” McCarthy told BBC News Africa. “I think he would have been very successful there. But it [AFCON] was a big stumbling block.
“Losing him for so many important matches, the team suffers not having the main striker there. So the decision was made. Literally [a] big part was because of the AFCON, and Victor Osimhen’s name got scratched off – not a player of interest because of that.”
United lead chase for Hayden Hackney
Manchester United's chances of signing Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney this summer could hinge on whether Michael Carrick is offered the managerial job at Old Trafford on a full-time basis.
Hackney has impressed United scouts with his performances in the Championship this season and the 23-year-old is primed for a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace all said to be interested.
Having managed Middlesbrough previously, Carrick knows Hackney well and Football Insider report that the interim United boss is expected to push club officials to sign the English youngster if he is given the job permanently.
However, Middlesbrough are only open to Hackney's departure if they fail in their bid to get promoted this season, with the Teeside outfit sitting second in the Championship currently.
United eye Brighton goalkeeper
Man Utd could raid Brighton for another player alongside Carlos Baleba after reports linked them with a move for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
Baleba is expected to feature high on United's shortlist after an approach was brushed away by Brighton for the 22-year-old last summer and TEAMtalk report that Rushworth is another target for the Red Devils too.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Coventry and he has caught the eye of many admirers including United, particularly with his contract set to expire in 2027.
However, Rushworth is thought to be keen on becoming a first-choice goalkeeper somewhere and may renew his deal at Brighton if speculation over current number one Bart Verbruggen develops into a move.
New midfielders appear on Man Utd shortlist
Sevilla's Lucien Agoume is believed to be on United's shortlist along with RC Lens star Mamadou Sangare as the club look to build on their midfield targets for the summer transfer window.
United are expected to pursue at least two midfielders in the summer and, while the preference is for a player like Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton, the club are aware that those deals could prove expensive, leading to more scouting for cheaper options.
According to Theatre of Red, Agoume has long-been admired by United chief Christopher Vivell as well as Arsenal and a move could be explored in the summer for the 24-year-old.
Meanwhile, The Touchline report that United are 'working on' a deal for Sangare, with the Red Devils said to be willing to pay up to £35m (€40m) for the Mali international.
Casemiro wanted by Serie A duo
Casemiro has already found interest in him, with the Brazilian veteran set to leave United upon the expiry of his contract in June.
The 33-year-old has been a key figure for United this season but the club have confirmed that Casemiro's contract will not be renewed and that he will leave the club at the end of the campaign.
With United looking for a restructure in midfield, Casemiro is set to find pastures new and reports in Italy have claimed that Milan and Juventus are ready to offer the ex-Real Madrid star a move.
Much will depend on Casemiro's wage demands but Milan in particular are hoping to reunite the midfielder with his former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric.
