The 19-year-old has emerged as a top target for Arne Slot’s side in recent months and the Premier League giants are expected to seriously pursue a deal this summer as they look to land a suitable long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Diomande has scored nine goals and provided six assists in 24 games since arriving at Leipzig last year and his progress is being closely tracked by a number of top European clubs, including Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Liverpool are also strongly interested in signing the Ivory Coast international and they have been tipped to launch an official proposal this summer, despite Diomande’s reported price tag of over €100 million.

The Reds spent a whopping €482.9m on new signings last summer, with Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike among their expensive arrivals, however they are ready to dip back into the transfer market in order to land Diomande.

The aforementioned Klopp has a close working relationship with Diomande due to his role as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull Group, although the Liverpool legend is reportedly yet to discuss a potential Anfield switch with the winger.

What has Jurgen Klopp said to Yan Diomande?

Reports have suggested that Diomande ‘dreams’ of playing for Liverpool, although the Ivory Coast winger was keen to quash such rumours during an interview with German publication BILD.

“People made it out to be my dream club [Liverpool]. But first and foremost, it's my dad's favourite club,” the RB Leipzig star said.

“It was always his great wish to see me play there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield. He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play. We didn't even have a TV at home for a long time.

“I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”

When asked if he’s spoken to Liverpool legend Klopp about the Reds, Diomande replied: “No, not that. But we talk every now and then. He tells me to stay humble and keep working hard.

“It was always my dream to play on one of his teams. That's not quite possible now. But being so close to him now, talking to him, shaking his hand, it's incredible. He's a legend. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a movie.”

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig boss Oliver Mintzlaff recently revealed that Diomande will not be sold this summer and the 19-year-old has admitted that he won’t argue with the Bundesliga club’s decision.

“He's the boss! And there are always many people involved in a transfer - clubs, agents, family, players. So I don't make these decisions alone,” Diomande revealed.

“One thing I can promise: I'll never argue with my club! Of course, I probably won't finish my career here. When the time comes, we'll talk. But if I stay here in the summer, I'll be absolutely happy.”
