Arsenal Transfer News Today: Sandro Tonali sends message as exit talks intensify
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Sandro Tonali and Martin Odegaard.
Sandro Tonali message
Sandro Tonali has issued his support to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe amid significant rumours he could leave St James’ Park this summer.
The Italy midfielder was linked with a shock Deadline Day move to Arsenal and FootballTransfers understands that Mikel Arteta’s side will rekindle their interest in his signature when the 2026 summer window opens.
However, Tonali has issued his support to Howe following reports that he could be sacked by the Newcastle hierarchy.
Speaking after he netted a brace versus Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday, Tonali told reporters: “After the second goal, I came to Eddie [Howe] because in the past few weeks, people spoke about our relationship, but I work every day with the gaffer, the gaffer works every day with me, and our relationship is perfect. It's not broken and I think this is perfect for the team.”
Martin Odegaard exit talks
Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Martin Odegaard ahead of a potential departure during the 2026 summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have both been credited with interest in the 27-year-old, and Mikel Arteta’s side have now held formal discussions with the midfielder as they prepare for a potential captaincy change this summer.
That is according to transfer reporter IndyKaila, who posted on X: “Arsenal are in talks with their captain Martin Odegaard about his role at the club. The player could leave to explore new opportunities.
“Declan Rice is likely to be the new Arsenal captain next season.”
Yan Diomande scouting mission
Arsenal were among the clubs to send scouts to watch Yan Diomande score his eighth goal of the season against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday, as per TEAMtalk.
It’s claimed that representatives from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were all in attendance at the Red Bull Arena to scout Diomande ahead of this summer.
Liverpool are currently the frontrunners for the Ivory Coast starlet, but Arsenal are ready to challenge for his signature later this year.
Real Madrid wonderkid wanted
Arsenal are tracking Real Madrid defender Victor Valdepenas amid concerns over Riccardo Calafiori’s injury record.
FootballTransfers exclusively revealed in January that the Gunners are becoming increasingly concerned about Calafiori’s lack of physical durability and this issue raised itself again on Sunday as he pulled out of the starting XI to face Portsmouth in the warm-up.
It’s unclear when the 23-year-old will be back in action, yet these constant concerns are an irritant to Arteta, who has been following Newcastle’s Tino Livramento as a potential solution at left-back.
Real Madrid prospect Valdepenas is also a player who has caught the eye of Arsenal’s staff with a view to a summer move, AS reports.
Aleksandar Stankovic wants Inter
Arsenal midfield target Aleksandar Stankovic has revealed that he “dreams” of rejoining Inter Milan amid rumours of a Premier League move this summer.
The 20-year-old left San Siro to join Club Brugge for a fee of €9.5 million last July and he has enjoyed a thoroughly successful start to life in Belgium, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
His form has unsurprisingly attracted the attention of scouts across Europe, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all keeping close tabs on his development, as per TEAMtalk.
However, speaking to Sky Italy over the weekend, Stankovic admitted (via Chelsea Chronicle): “Inter is a unique love, either you have it inside you or you don’t. Inter fans can understand. Coming back is a dream in the drawer, I don’t know when it will come true.”
Nico Williams hope
Arsenal have reportedly been informed that long-term target Nico Williams is ready to consider an Athletic Club exit this summer.
The Spain international was heavily linked with a blockbuster transfer last year, amid significant interest from both Arsenal and Barcelona, however he opted to sign a lucrative new 10-year contract at his boyhood club instead.
Despite this, Williams has endured a tough 2025-26 season and with Athletic Club languishing down in ninth place in the Spanish top flight table, he is now willing to consider his future at the club.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, who claim that intermediaries have informed Arsenal that a deal could be possible this summer.
